The grassroots organization known as Students For Concealed Carry On Campus, or SCCC, has just made their website shiny!

Check it out http://www.concealedcampus.org/aboutus.php

In other news, 2009-01-23 - TEXAS HOUSE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS REPEALING BAN ON CONCEALED CARRY ON TEXAS COLLEGE CAMPUSES

After the SCCC filed a lawsuit and publicly rebuked a 'Texas State University Student Council Representative' for his flawed essay against concealed carry on campus

college concealed carry

Good post! A very difficult CCW "nich" to break into, as colleges do tend toward ultra liberal views on everything. Looks like a strong and level headed approach. Good luck.

At 7:15 a.m. last Saturday a homeless man was shot in the head as he slept on the bench in the metro stop right in front of our University of Houston basketball stadium (next door to my math testing center + the central hub for bus traffic). Nothing was stolen, no other motive than random violence. Personally, I wish I could carry my CHL to campus, at the very least be able to leave it (legally) in my glove compartment in my car. The scary thing was I had a test Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at that math testing center. I would have arrived at about 7:15 to do some early studying and test prep as I normally do.

I guess luckily I slept in and had to reschedule for 10:00 a.m.?

Glad they finally got around to updating their website, looks like UoH has a rep now. Gonna email him in the morning.

Been to UofH, that's NOT a safe area to be in! I wouldn't feel safe being disarmed around that area of the city either.

CAN SOMEONE ELABORATE ON THIS? I haven't heard of this.

It was on their old website

Some student council organization wrote a letter to the Texas Congress or lawmaking body, and wrote the basic 'Guns are bad for learning crap' which they tore apart in an counter letter

"Filed a lawsuit" sounds a little more like retribution for lying to the masses than had they simply written a "counter letter". :)

Is this some sort of slander/libel suit?

Although college kids are s'posd to be the best and brightest they aren't allowed to carry a legally concealed firearm? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.:banghead:

Bah, I'm jealous of the campuses that are able to carry. We have a long way to go. As sailor said college campuses are very liberal, so its not going to be a easy one to go down. Sad to say but I think there will be more lifes lost before its widespread instituted.

A while back, the UT legislature debated this issue as well. They concluded that we could CCW on campus, but open carry was forbidden. So we are ok as long as we "keep it in the closet".

Well, it wasn't a perfect decision, but better than nothing. I hope it works out for TX. CCW on campus is the only logical answer to school terrorists. By the time the SWAT arrives, the dirty deed is done, and the attacker has already ended their own life.

dorbzemetal, the media will spin any more massacares as a way to justify more gun bans

i don't think anything will make most college campuses legal to ccw

I just read on their website about the arguments against CC on campus and their answers to the objections. Very good responses.

These guys are great I have been at least informally in contact with them for a little over a year now they are GREAT. Thanks for the new link.

Yeah, I get to drive through the 3rd or 5th ward every day. Forget which one it is. There is a gas station I used to go to right by the baseball field. I stopped going after A) I got surrounded by at least 3 cracked out looking people asking for money for "food" and "water" (which I bought one a bottle of water and I immediately saw him trying to sell it as I was pulling out, you should have seen how depressed he looked when I gave him water instead of $2), and B) walking into pay for cigarettes and seeing two giagnormous gang bangers screaming at the attendant because they were out of strawberry blunts; yes they were gangbangers. I left and called the campus police after I heard, "I am gonna shoot your sand_ ass. Get out of my country!" The irony of someone in a foreign based gang telling a born citizen to "get out of my country."

I am constantly amazed at the rigor at which some people defend no firearms for law abiding citizens when I go to school right next to an area where it is normal to see prostitutes and corner dealers.

Fun stuff . The hypocrisy of the world we live in astounds me at times. Now don't get me wrong, I love my school but.... the proximity to some of these places suck. You'd think living by a higher education center would provide some sort of motivation. At least I used to think that... I was naive.

yeah im the campus leader for my school and trying to get a chapter going, but its tough...a lot of people in colleges seem to be anti-gun, it's rather depressing...every time they walk into my room and see my collection of various spent casings they look at me weird.
