hey guys and gals, 36m from new orleans, louisiana here. i was a chef for 20 years before i got more into the finance side of the food biz, however, i grew up in a house full of cops and soldiers (more or less the family biz), so it was only natural that i got into firearms along the way. for a long time i was only into handguns, but in the last two years ive started branching out into long guns

Hello from the Buckey State

I'm a 60 year-old semi-retired professional handyman who has gotten back into the shooting sports after many years raising and educating 3 kids along with my wife of 38 years. I own five handguns and five long guns, and just bought a used Lee 3-hole manual turret press, along with .380 ACP & 9mm Luger dies to get me started back into reloading (I sold all my stuff while raising the kids, so I'm really starting from scratch). I'll soon expand into .40 S&W and .45 ACP as soon as I figure what I'm doing. I'm excited to get started again, and after lurking around this site, I thought I'd join up for when I'll need the inevitable help. I also build custom fly rods, teach fly fishing, fly tying and fly casting classes, teach the Boy Scout Fly Fishing Merit Badge, and I'm a member of the NRA and a Life Member of the Federation of Fly Fishers. Hope to make some new friendships along the way.

Joe

Hey everyone,

I stumbled on this page through a yahoo search and really liked it so I decided to register. I have always love firearms, but have just recently started buying and shooting again. I have an HK usp 40, Mossberg 500 home gun, Taurus TCP, and a Rossi 357.

Hello everyone, my name is Aussie-Kitty, and as my handle suggests, I am from Australia, a nation which has extremely archaic gun control laws. Gun ownership is restricted to members of shooting clubs (I have recently joined one), police and security guards. We have a substantial rate of gun crime!

My other interests apart from pistol shooting include films, literature, swimming and technology. I have two pet cats named Felix and TC. I work as a Telephonist in a Sydney Hospital

Hi - I am a new Here. I am 53 and decided to get back into target shooting. I have not shot a Hand Gun since I was a Teenager. A Friend of mine is a frequent shooter and got me interested in joining him at the range. I recently purchased a Heritage 4" Barrel single action 6 shooter used. So I will start off with that and will see where that takes me. Glad to be here!

Ruger 44 cal.carbine deerstalker.

I have a ruger 44 cal carbine, can,t see thru iron sights anymore. I would like to put scope on it but don,t know what rings and scope to put on it. I live in tenn mtns, so my field of fire will be quick and short. About70 to 100 yds is the most you get here. It used to be my hog gun with iron sights. Any help would be welcomed.

Hi, everyone. I was introduced to THR by author Larry Correia (Monster Hunter). I've not done as much actual shooting as I'd like over the last number of years, but hope to change that. While not shooting, I've at least been writing guns into screenplays. I co-wrote the movie Tremors, and its sequels. I'm the one who oversees character Burt Gummer's guns. I'll have to cruise the site now looking for info on sporting clays, which I hope to try with my old side-by-side Winchester 12ga.

What's up THR! I must first say that this is a GREAT community! I have actually been a member here for a few years but only recently started getting active.

I live in The Socialist Republic of New Jersey. I am currently in the process of getting my gun permit here so needless to say I don't own any guns yet. My first time shooting a real gun was when I was 14, I shot my step father's hand-me-down WWII 1911. The thing I noticed most was there was hardly any recoil! I was HOOKED! I haven't shot a gun since then up until a few weeks ago at a local range. I shot my friend's Taurus .45 (I think its a PT 24/7 Pro) and his Mossberg shotgun.

When we left the range, I said I will try to get my permit ASAP. I did much, MUCH research on which gun I will purchase first and have since settled on a Smith & Wesson M&P .40 (even though the Sig Sauer P226 is SERIOUSLY talking to me lately lol).

I also plan on joining the NRA, GOA, ANJRPC,and any other legit pro gun rights organization. I also plan on getting involved in the activism process.

Hello all! I have been lurking for a long time so I figured I would finally register. I do target shooting, IDPA, and some 3-gun stuff, and the like. Lately I have been spending a lot more time at my local ranges which is nice, since I more or less stopped shooting for a few years. There is a lot of helpful info on here, and I hope to contribute to it!

Hi, everyone

My name is Erik. Like so many guys, I've wanted to have a gun since I was a kid. As often seems to happen, I've either lived in states/cities/conditions (MA, NYC, under my parents roof or with my wife) in which owning a gun is not a possibility. However, I am chipping away at my wife, and I am steadily approaching the time when I may make a first purchase.

Over time, my tastes have been wide ranging. I'm not a rich man, so I'm kind of glad that I haven't made a purchase yet, or I'd probably have ended up collecting each new type of firearm I fancied.

I first fell in love with the idea of owning a single action cowboy revolver (like the Ruger Vaquero), and a companion lever action rifle chambered for the same caliber (Like the Marlin 1894CSS). Being older and a bit more practical, I now lean further toward a DA wheelgun to accompany a lever action, but I suspect my first purchase will be even more practical still. As I said, I'm not very wealthy, so I'm only able to afford a single gun right now. Additionally, my wife will probably only allow me to own one at all -and even then not to be kept in the house. So be it.

I'm leaning very hard toward a semiautomatic pistol that accepts a 22.lr conversion kit of some kind. I've narrowed my list of choices to a CZ -P01 with the Kadet conversion, or a Glock 26 with the Advantage Arms conversion kit, or a Sig P229 classic 22 with the Two Step Caliber X-Change Kit. This way, I can have one very fine 9mm pistol with which to train cheaply using 22lr ammo.

Once this is done, who knows? I may find that eventually I'll have the opportunity to expand my collection to finally get that lever action/revolver combo I wanted from the beginning. A guy can dream...

Anyway, that's the reason I'm here. I look forward to learning from the users on this forum. Nice to meet you all.

I am 24, a partner in a business and about to graduate (double major in economics and management). I was a police cadet at one time, and have formal tactical training from ex-Marine and Army personnel. It was a great time in my life, I learned a lot and I had a blast!

I currently own a P7 dated to 1983, and am about to purchase a S&W 638. I have applied for my carry license, and those will be the pistols that get the call for carry duty. I also own a late 70s Remington 870 Wingmaster, and a Lee Enfield MKI in .303 British. The FN FNP Tactical and a full length AR flat top are on my wish list!

Hi, my name is Ed. I jut ran across your sit today. I have been a gun owner since 95, all I have is a Taurus 9mm, but looking to add to my collection soon.

Hello from Ohio

Greetings THR... new to this forum but not new to forums or guns by any means. Ive got my CHL and Ive been carrying since August of this year. Been shooting for almost 20 years now. I have a weakness for Glocks in general... but love my 10/22s and MK series pistols as well.

Hello all. I am remover. I'm a british national residing in florida, I currently own a sporterized mosin nagant 91/30. I am new to shooting and to guns, I do not subscribe to any political ideologies or affiliations so some of you may find my beliefs and idea's to be "different". you may label me what you wish, I don't care.

I feel that the 2nd amendment is great and necessary and shoul be protected. I do not feel the government should be able to regulate my ability to own full automatic firearms, surpressors etc although I understand why it does.

I feel that the 2nd amendment is being circumnavigated by other laws and social movements in our society. (social ideals, internet monitoring, street camera's etc). to the point that gun ownership would be pointless should the need to use them arise (politically).

I'm not afraid to say that I own a gun in the event that I might have to use it to shoot someone. I hope I never have to do that. I feel that people are pressured to not admit that to each other. but i'd shoot an armed threatening man before I'd shoot an unarmed deer.

.... more later ;)

Newbie as of today here. I used to shoot and build 1911s a lot and still shoot and load for .45acp regularly. I am getting back into shooting long guns, target mostly now. I am a life member of NRA and SAF and strongly support 2nd amendment. It is critical now as much as ever to preserve the 2nd amendment as we have so many in high places against it.

Doing research on a number of gun related topics I often ended up getting answers at THR, so much so that joining seemed a must and the people here were knowledgeable, friendly, decent people so it was a no brainer. Thanks to THR staff for a terrific place for firearms enthusiasts to meet and exchange.
