welcome NCSUJOEB  happy your little "home invasion" didn't leave you injured. You'll find lots of great advice on here, just remember the firearms are just part of the best home security plan. If you haven't read "The Truth About Self Protection" by Massad Ayoob, I'd recommend it. It's an old book, but much of the information is still relevant and may be of help to you in helping you focus your energies. He speaks of locks, alarms, scouting your house perimeter, dogs, guns, safes, weapons...all the fun "stuff". Great book, easy read and I got mine from Amazon.com for cheap.

Greetings

I thought I had registered here eons ago but I do not know for sure so if it is a dupe registration from several years back, don't kick me in the hind end!

Hi Everyone: I have lurked on this site for a long time and decided to provide some personal input. I retired in April of this year at the age of 63. My wife must continue to work to provide for my weaknesses-guns,golfing,sprintcar races, computers, and Mustangs. I started my early years with a Red Ryder bb gun, then a Mossberg 410 and finally to a Savage 222 (my old faithful). I started reloading about 1960 utilizing a Truline jr. press. Now I use a Dillion 550 and reload for 222,223,243,30-06,32acp,9mm,40S&W,45ACP, and 45LC. Everyday that I'm on this web page, I learn something new.

Hi all..

My name is Robert and I now live in western Kentucky, relocated here in 2003 after spending the majority of my adult life in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri.

I spent six years in the US Navy as a Gunnersmate which further fueled my life long passion for guns. I am into all facets of gun ownership, most especially the political and "tinkering" sides of it!

Lets Shoot!!!

Hello all.

I'm a 41 year old aviation defense contractor, currently working in Southern California. I've been lurking for some time, but have started to post in the last two days or so, and therefore an introduction is probably in order. Since I'm in California, I don't have a whole lot of options available to me as far as interesting firearms purchases, but I've got a couple of the basics. I served in the Navy for a while, where I picked up avionics, and now do it for a living.

I've enjoyed most of the discourse I've observed here. I like the fact that this seems very much an adult forum. I'm not discriminatory against youth, mind you--just immaturity.

I was turned on to this sight from www.freesteader.com , who seem to refer to posts on this forum every so often. I've been enjoying what I'm reading. There's some good info on here.

Yeah, I'm pretty old to just now be getting into 1911A1s, but I just did. I managed to qualify with one in the Navy, but it took me three tries! Because of that, I tended to shy away from them, and never really thought about them too much. Several months ago, a friend 'forced' us to try his 1991A1 Colt at some IPSC steel, and we fell under the spell...the wife just got her Springfield GI yesterday! I ended up buying the 1991A1 from our friend, and we're getting ready to attempt our first amateur IPSC.

Thanks for having us!

I'll make my mark.

23 years old. Own a Yugo SKS fairly modified and a stock XD-40. XD will be used as my CCW once I get back from business training and can find the time to take the class. The SKS is used strictly for fun.

I'm looking into picking up an AR-15 before the impending presidential doom on the forefront and that possibility becomes extinct again.

I'm a old fat biker hippie longhair redneck type of person. Been shootin' for years. Can remember when no one thought a thing of seeing a couple of young boys walking to the cotton fields for some shootin' fun. Heck.... they weren't even scared of kids back then! God, bikes, guns, guitars, pipes & 'baccy is my thing. Y'all have a good'un

Hello all - I've been a lurker for a while, and finally got around to signing up and getting my first post out of the way. I live in Illinois, and have spent quite a while in the legal forums keeping up to date on what's happening around my state and the country.

Glad I found this place, and appreciate that the discussions here live up to the name. I don't know if I'll be posting too often, since I don't have much to add but do have a lot to learn :)

New from NC

hey guys. I was introduced to this site through a friend I was asking a lot of gun advice.

I am 26, engaged, and have a 1 month old daughter.

I'm about to buy my first gun. HD, and range. So i'm looking into full-size semi-autos, .40s&w (or maybe 9mm).

Only guns I've ever shot were glock 9mm, sig 229 .40sw, SA 1911, and a s&w 38 special snub nosed.

So far interested in XD40 , maybe a glock. maybe a cz or a ruger, but I'd prefer no manual safety being in the event someone is in my house I don't want to fumble with a safety.

I'm already planning a purchase of my NEXT firearm (if my first is .40sw, second will be 9mm). hahaha.

Lots of info on this site, I like it a lot.

Just joined in Jan., seemed to be a little more activity on this site than other firearms and hunting sites I was frequenting. I live in Va., enjoy hunting, shooting sports of all types, as well as fishing and growing a garden in the summer. I am 41 yrs old.

Hello

I am new member. I Signed up today.
I grew up hunting in VA & WVA. Mostly Whitetail hunting with a pair of
Marlins in 30-30 & 45-70. They are great for the VA woods. Love em.
I moved to TX 3 years ago. Big differeance than VA hunting.
I am Still learning the lay of the land here so I have not done too much hunting here yet. I knew after moving here that I would need to get a reach out and touch me gun so I bought a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 308 a few weeks ago. I am Looking for a open spot on a lease or one to share or anything else.
Love to hunt anything.
