Taurus' are alright pistols. I've shot many of them without issue. Also you may want to consider a Ruger.
For caliber size, something easy and economical might be the ticket. Perhaps a .22, .38 or 9mm. Hope it helps! :)

Hello,
Found this web site by accident, but very glad I did. I hope to converse with Knowlegable people about maintaining our rights as gunowners. In addition hope to get helpful tips on firearms and meet new valuable resources of knowledge on the various topics of our sport.
I am firearms enthusiast, I have s complete but modest collection of arms that I think do all of the tasks that I will ever want or need.
I am currently staioned overseas for my work so I don't get the opportunity to shoot as much as I would like. But hope this forum will help me to keep my thirst for the topic quenched.
Just so you know, if asked about the shooting sports and what my favorite is. It is the days that I live for busting brush with my dog hunting any kind of fowl.
It is a pleasure to make the aquaitance of each of the members of this site.
Regards

Another New Guy.........

Found this site purely by luck.

My name is Martin, I'm married, 38 and I live in the Bronx with my wife and 12 y.o. daughter. I'm a Navy Vet, long time guitarist and I work in IT. I live in a pretty nice Italian-American neighborhood but nevertheless things do happen. A shooting took place down the street last night (a car was holed up nothing more) and a cabbie cut someones throat for not paying the fair just a few blocks away. Unusual but true.

After a long hiatus from owning and casually shooting firearms I've decided I'd like to get back into it for recreation as well as preparation for self-defense if the need ever arises.

Firearms I used to own were long guns. Remington BDL 700, Ruger Mini-14, Chinese AK variant. Quite a long time ago 10 years at least.

I've never been a pistol owner and my shooting experience with them is limited to basic qualification in the Navy. My brother (Currently a LTjg in the Silent Service) has a beautiful H&K .45 compact that just melts into the hands.........

I'm looking to get into pistol shooting for recreation and for home safety. Looks like I'll be going the revolver route with a .357 being my first purchase.

Nice to meet you folks, seems to be a decent and well run forum.

Martin

A new member here.

I have had my handgun permit for a little more than a year. I got it as a result of a particularly nasty home invasion in my town that made international news in 2007. In college, 20 years ago, I used to shoot shotgun and .22lr every opportunity I got, though mostly just destructive fun shooting than anything competitive. I sold them upon moving back to Massachusetts in the early 90s. I have loved guns and shooting since my parents bought me a Crossman BB-gun at age 12 or so and really just needed a good excuse to get one again.

So I finally got myself my first handgun, a Sig P226 in .22LR. It came with a coupon to upgrade it to .40 or 9mm, and I plan on redeeming it shortly for a 9mm. The only thing that annoys me about the gun right now is that it doesn't lock open upon the last round. However I received an email from Sig, upon questioning them about the danger to the firing pin upon dry firing at the end of each magazine, that there is a locator pin that protects the gun. So now I am happy. Next gun purchases are a Ruger LCP and a cheapo Mossberg shotgun.

Hi, my name is Gerhardt, and I just bought the first gun I've had since I was in high school: a Saiga 308. I'll use it for pig hunting and target practice primarily, but of course there is always the freedom issue. Had I just wanted a pig gun, I would have gotten a bolt action, and perhaps I will in the future, but this is a multi purpose weapon that may have to be used some day in home defense. By that, I mean my house and my country. I bought now 'cause I see a day when guns will be outlawed, and I want to make sure that I have one before that happens. I want one to defend my constitutional right to have one.

It's not just me; several aquaintances have expressed their concern with the new direction of a socialist American government. Thought we'd never have to refer to that way, and we never thought we'd feel compelled to arm ourselves, and yet, here we are. Here in Texas, I've spoken to several who have broached the subject of successionism simply because Texas can--if neccessary. I'd love it! Kick out the panty wastes, and let's see who'd thrive; Texas or a socialist/communist entity.

Of course, I blame the politicians, but more, I blame the sheople of America.

Well, enough politics, and I hope you noticed that I kept my comments very general, let me tell you about me.

I'm 55, have a son, and I teach at Austin Community College. Yes, a conservative college professor: rare as hen's teeth.

Hobbies include scuba diving, photography, and playing music (guitars include a '84 Fender Strat, a Line 6 Variax, and a beautiful new Ovation)

Dad owned five guns, a very old Winchester lever action 30-06, an 8mm Mauser from the war, two pump 12 gauge shotguns, and .410. I had a .22 tube fed with a 4X scope. Now, I've got a very cool Saiga 308 with a 3X9 Nikon scope. I will trick it out, but not till I get a few more guns. I'd like two .22 tube fed bolt actions with scopes, just like I had when I was kid. One for me, and one for my 11 year old. I'd like a 9mm handgun, and some other high powered hunting rifle. Maybe a 270 Remington. I'm going to the gun show this month, and maybe I can pick up some of those. Oh, and I might get the Saiga "home defense" shotgun as well. I'm on a roll.

Love to hear from ya.

Howdy,

New member, been reading these post for a while, every now and then i like to throw in my two cents. I like whitetail hunting, guns- the way they they look, the way they feel, the way they go BOOM! I like em all, but I'm most fond of Russian military , large caliber rifles and handguns. Shotguns to.

Though I walk through the valley of death I fear no evil as I am the meanest s.o.b. in the valley....except my wife.
I enjoy shooting handguns, rifles, both centerfire and rimfire, hunting, fishing and lots of range time. I don't drink, drug, gamble, fool around or smoke. My wife lets me shoot and buy guns. I am a firm believer in the second amendment. It probably should have been the first. I spend a lot of time walking in the woods and a lot less shooting critters. I am one of those dang fools who gets irritated when a five shot string at a hundred yards doesn't go through the same hole. I spend a lot of time being irritated. My eldest son, who is also my best friend, is a better shot then I am. He just humors the old man. I plan on dropping in here often.

Another new "face"...

Hi everyone, I'm Shane and I am currently stuck in Alabama. New to the board, but have read a thread or two before. Hope to meet some new friends, learn a thing or two and maybe stumble into some decent conversation here and there. I tend to be a bit of a Mossberg freak these days and am looking to start expanding my rifle collection, a little more along the high powered lines! :D I have been classified a "conspiracy nut" by a few, but I believe there is a difference between being paranoid, and being prepared!

Already posted a few things, so I guess it is time for an introduction.

Ah. . . Lessee. ...

Middle aged semi-fat guy with most of my hair, living in Georgia. Being a native of Los Angeles (Okay, you can start with the snarky comments anytime. . .:neener:) this has been a bit of culture shock. Been here 5 years and still not used to it. I do prefer the firearms laws here. US Navy for 9+ years, where I had the opportunity to compete (not very well...) in the PACFLT Shooting matches in 85, 86 & 87. (I truly love the M-14 and 1911). Exited the Navy in 87, went to school and worked as a firefighter/medic for a several years, got downsized and became a 911/Police Dispatcher in San Francisco:what: (please continue snarky comments) for a few years. Gave all that up to move back to L.A. and work in the entertainment industry. Met a really cute Georgia girl on the beach in San Diego one day followed her home so she'd marry me.

Actually, She dragged me kicking and screaming across the country - that's my story and I'm sticking to it! We are both active volunteers with our local Humane Society and CERT programs.

My user ID is a reference to the Border Collie who shares our home.

hi my name is george and i live in nova scotia canada i think thr is the best and i wish we had gun laws like you in the states and your troops are doing a great job

New guy here, found your page trolling for Pardner Pump conversions and stuck with it. I've only been shooting for a few years now, but I've got experience with pistols, shottys and a few carbines. Hope to stick around for a while. Thanks all.

Hello all,

I live in Southern Utah and grew up around guns. My father has a modest collection of revolvers and rifles (.22 through .06) I myself have acquired a few that I keep for protection and utilitarian need (yes I have a Utah CCW permit). I have never been hard-core about my guns, I visit the range regularly (though I wouldn't mind getting there more often) and I keep the weapons clean. But I have not found too many people in my line of work who will even LOOK at a gun let alone talk about them. (I had a roommate that had a complete apoplexy when he discovered my 9mm.) You see, I am a musician, and to date have spent the largest portion of my career in (live) theater. An old friend told me about this site and I am happy to have been pointed in this direction.
And that is about as interesting as my life gets.

Greetings

Hey I'm Mags but for some reason the screen name Mags was already taken. Anyways I am Active Duty Air Force and perform additional duties as an Armorer. I enjoy 1911s and AR15s. I also find it to be almost as much fun reloading as it is to be on the firing line. I am a member of the NRA and believe our right to bear arms should never be questioned. I live in Albuquerque NM and am glad to be stationed in such a gun friendly state.
Anything for me let me know.

Howdy howdy howdy!

I should have looked around for one of these threads when I first started, but it was less than a month ago so I guess I'm not doing too bad.

I originally came on the board to ask about Saiga 12 guages I believe, which turned into Saiga .308's, then to 45's, then defense shotguns, and well you gotta have your extended .22 conversation in there in pistols AND rifles, and wow this site has a little something for everyone doesn't it?, want ads, carbine queries, ammo tests, and all on a great-running site. Very nice, guys, thanks for helping provide such a valuable resource!

Ray here. Here to read technical discussions and mix with likeminded individuals. I am active duty Army, stationed in Alaska and about to deploy to Afghanistan. Looks like there are some great folks around here! Thanks for this forum. It looks great.

Hey everyone!
I just got my 1st rifle, a Mossberg 100 ATR .270 win. I live in NW Houston and had an appreciation for guns starting with my Co2 BB gun when I was a kid, .22 when I was a young Boy Scout, all kinds of fun guns when I was in the US Army (82nd Airborne Div, 407th S&S Bn. '84-'87).

I've been married to a wonderful wife for 9 years and we have 2 kids, a 2.5 year old daughter and 4.5 year old son. I hope to raise them around guns, hunting, outdoors, and more importantly safe and responsible gun ownership.

I found THR by doing research on low-end, entry level rifles. There's a lot of discussion about the Mossberg 100 around the net and I was able to make an informed decision as to how to spend what little money I had to get a halfway decent rifle. :)

I look forward to a lot of reading on here and getting to know more of you!
