Highlights:
There has never been any kind of magazine restrictions in NM.
10 rounds and greater, not greater than 10 rounds; so a 10rd California glock won't even be legal.
No grandfather clause.
It's a felony to possess, buy, sell, bla, bla bla any magazine 10 rounds and greater.
Grants the state 1.5 million dollars to murder anyone who does not comply.
Can't tell for sure if it applies to detachable mags or anything with a fixed mag like a 22lr that holds 10 or more can't open acrobat reader at the moment, guess it needs an update.

Now some of the folks on here think that if you don't break the law you don't need a lawyer. Well sometimes the government tries to pass a law to turn you into a criminal.

It's the same as California (i.e. 10 round magazines or less are ok), see copy below from the draft you attached. (Bold highlights added by me)

(2) "large-capacity magazine" means a magazine
or receptacle for a firearm that holds cartridges or shells
under spring pressure preparatory for feeding into the chamber
or a belt, drum, feed, strip or tubular device that is capable
of holding or could be readily restored or converted to hold
ten or more rounds of ammunition. "Large-capacity magazine"
does not mean:
(a) a feeding device that has been
permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate ten or more
rounds of ammunition
;

It must not be the same as California because even a 10 round magazine is illegal. That means someone will have to make 8 round mags however this will no doubt be challenged and it will lose.

Did you not see what I just posted above? The draft the OP posted which I copied and bolded the parts that specifically state "ten OR more rounds of ammunition," "OR" being the key word.

California's law is a ban on magazines that hold "more" than 10 rounds. So they are the same in this particular.

It will only pass if we are quiet. I intend to bug the heck out of every legislator, including the incredibly stupid sponsor of this abomination. I doubt it will pass, but then again we are the land of the "Curse of Lew Wallace".

If it passes, and is signed by our idiot governor, then I intend to be the first person arrested in order to have standing to get this mess overturned. This is about as good a hill as any to die on.

Ok I’m dumb, I totally read that the wrong way, you guys are correct. Wow, my comprehension there struggled and I’m usually not one to do that.

I was reading what it states but my mind was not computing correctly.

this is really ridiculous as you all pointed out this makes all the limited capacity magazines of 10 unuseable.

Sorry for the confusion.

it is 10 rounds or more. so 9 round magazines only. worse than California. so even a ruger 10/22.no grandfathering clause also. whatever happens to that bill i will always remember the name Roybal Caballero apparently she tried to pass a limit on 15 rd magazines peviously which failed.

As with most all political airheads what they need is a demonstration , from somebody like Jerry Miculek . Which will show the futile efforts of banning ANY magazines regardless of capacities .

WHY American citizens put up with the constant BS of political morons ,who aren't smart enough to get out of their own stupidity and obviously Can't balance a checkbook or decipher weather change , IS BEYOND ME !.

A proposed bill is not a passed bill.

It is essential to know how to effectively oppose such legislation.

Since status on this is "pre-file" and there are no sponsors, now is the time for all NM members to contact their House representatives and clearly state the following.

I am strongly opposed to HP50"POSSESSION OF LARGE CAPACITY GUN MAGAZINE" and expect you to vote against it at every opportunity.
The more fellow New Mexicans that you can get to send this simple statement to their reps the less likely the bill will get any traction to get a vote before the House.

Considering the people in charge of state government it wouldn't surprise me at all if this passes. I know my represenatives will vote against this but they are seriously outnumbered in state government.

Strange and outrageous things get introduced all the time. The time to worry is when it starts moving through the legislative process. I would be shocked if New Mexico decided to outdo Colorado.

They tried a few years ago here in NM to instate a mag capacity ban, it failed even though the private sale through FFL passed. NM has a lot of moderate Dem voters who are 2nd Amendment supporters. The problem is that we, like Colorado picked up our share of far left California regressives but thankfully they haven't been as successful here....... Yet.......... Pretty sure this will fail also.

"10 or more" is not the same as " more than 10"

"10 or more" means anything over 9 is illegal. "More than 10" means the 11th or more is illegal.
