I just started using my new Hornady LNL AP progressive press to reload .45ACP rounds.....just finished the first 100 cartridges.

Short of placing completed rounds in loading blocks, what's the trick for knowing when I'm going to run out of primers?

Of course never had a problem using my Lee or Sinclair hand primers, when I used my single stage press.

Sometimes the obvious escapes me:eek:, so I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks

If you've got a box of 100 bullets in the tray and you have 100 primers in the tube....when you are almost out of bullets...you are almost out of primers.:)

There are contraptions for sell that place a rod and sensor over the tube, and beeps when its almost out....if you wish to buy one.

For my Projector I cut a piece of rod and marked it to show when I was down to the last ten. You might measure the diameter of the tube and see if a Dillon low primer whatever it's called will fit. I don't think the blue color would screw up the operation that much.

That is what I did was add the low primer Dillon to mine. I also made the Dillon roller handle work. They both work great. I also have the Dillon press as well both great machines.
Hope this helps

I pre-prime, but as EddieNFL posted, use a rod to show when the primers are low, or if it will work, use a Dillon low primer alarm kit.

You can always paint it red. :D

Your press should have come with a plastic rod to insert into the primer tube.
Simply put 5 to 10 primers in the tube and insert the rod. Mark the rod at the top of the primer tube. Now all you have to do is watch for the mark to reach that point and load more primers if you have more than the 5 to 10 rounds left to reload.

Ohhh!

So that's what that rods for!!:banghead::banghead:

I thought there had to be a solution.....just couldn't see it!

Thanks

I use a brass rod with a SP on one end and LP on the other. It will lock the primer sled back and you hear the thud when it does. Adding a piece of tape to the rod makes a good indicator when your just about out.

I also have the RCBS low primer mounted on mine. But here is a warning. If your using station 2 for powder dispenser/PTX die the RCBS will bump the powder dispenser just so lightly. With the factory 3 leg part holding the primer tube in place, it can work it out enough to disengage at the bottom base. I had an adapter make so it locks the adapter to the outer tube and secures the primer tube so they stay put. Been using this setup for a couple of years now with out any problems. So if you camp to the plastic part on top of the primer tube, BEWARE. It can make a mess when the inner tube comes out of the base.

Yep, that is what the little white rod is for.

I just drew a line around it with with a sharpie with 1 primer in the tube, so when line touches safety shield, i know she is empty.

Bill.

I keep my brass in MTM ammo boxes.
So when I'm near the end of a box of brass, I'm near the end of the primers too.

But when I give the handle that extra umph to seat a primer, if there's none there, I can feel it.
