I have been obsessing over a PS90 for the past few months. It's hovering at the top of my "next to purchase list". I've actually never shot one. Only handled one once. But I love the idea of this thing as a fun plinker and range toy. I'm also impressed by the defensive capabilities and overall versatility of the round from that carbine. Member Trent posted about this not long ago. And it really had me thinking I need one sooner than later. And of course there is the ability to have the Five Seven pistol as a complete package. Another gun high on my list.

I'm sure you all know the PS90 is not cheap. I could buy at least 2 or maybe 3 handguns on my list for the same price. But every time I go to look at something else I keep thinking in the back of my mind that I could use those funds towards the PS90.

So am I hopelessly dreaming? Should I just buy lower priced firearms on my list now and wait? Or save up and get the PS90 next on my list no matter what?

Is just the style of the gun what attracts you to it? I know I was in the same exact boat for a very long time. I always was drooling over one at the lgs every time I went in. After thinking long and hard about it, I decided the cost of the rifle itself was quite expensive, along with the ammo. That style of gun begs "shoot me as much and fast as possible" too. The 5.7 ammo is not the cheapest not easiest to come by.

So this was my solution. I bought a ruger 10/22 brand new for $230. For another $230 I bought the HTA 90/22 stock. Now I have an exact replica of my dream gun. Not to mention it uses .22 ammo so it's very cheap to shoot. Not going to lie, this is probably one of my favorite gun to shoot. I've got some fun guns that I shoot. Just a suggestion.

Are you gonna SBR it? If not, it will always be "off"
You need to shoot one before you drop that kind of coin.
I was always impressed with the PS90......until I shot one. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't do it for me.
Ammo is expensive, its not as balanced as it looks with the 16" bbl, its hard to get your head down on the factory sights and I could never get used to the brass smacking me in the belt-buckle region after every shot.

Again, find one local and shoot it before you buy as its a pretty big investment that you will not be able to recover if you decide you don't like it.

I want one as well,,,

I want one as well,,,
But there is no way I would buy one,,,
Too much money for not much functional upgrade.

So, Every year at least once,,,
I go to H&H Gun Range in Oklahoma City,,,
I rent one with a couple hundred rounds and go to town.

That's enough "wraith killing" to satisfy my P90 ya-ya's.

But I have to admit,,,
That stock might get me to buy a 10/22.

Cool looks, high price, expensive ammo, 22 magnum ballistics. I love the 22 magnum but there are cheaper guns for that.

Now if someone built a pocket pistol in 5.7X28 I'd be all over it, but the current platforms for the cartridge are just too big for what they do.

Want cool looks and more power? Build yourself an AR pistol. It'll be way cheaper, too.

People really need to stop repeating this nonsense. The 5.7 PISTOL offers similar ballistics to a .22Mag RIFLE.

I tried an AR 57. Got bored with it. Reloading it has its own special problems, and buying ammo makes it expensive to shoot. I'd rather have a .22 LR or .22 Mag rifle.

But they are cool looking, and can hold 50 rounds.

I like 32_d3gr33s's solution. Pure genius.

I came real close to pulling the trigger on an AR57 upper but the handloading challenges are what ultimately turned me off.

IIRC, the member named Trent (?) here has posted some very interesting info about his experiences with his PS90 ... if I recall it was within the past 6-8 months.

If the ammo were easily reloadable, I would already own a PS90 along with a number of those dandy 50-rd magazines.

In-a-heartbeat. :)

For me, the special polymer-coated cases are the deal-killer.

5.7x28 ammunition. Annoying magazines.

I haven't fired them alot, and I'm pretty sure that I was using bad mags, but those are the reasons I found. You can't get 5.7 ANYWHERE.

:/

I would go with the 10/22 mod. I don't much care for the looks or how they feel, but I've never shot one. I have a little brother who if he talks about firearms it's about either a XDM 3.8 compact 45, PS90 SBR, S&W 500 or a Second century 45(that double barreled 1911.) so I'll have to look into the 10/22 stock.

Well I'd love to know where you go to Academy. Maybe I'm just not good at looking, but I haven't seen much of it. :/

Yes, I own a PS90 (actually have 9 of them... sigh.)

I shot one in an NRA Highpower Sporting Rifle match this summer and won handily, despite the match being shot at 200 yards. ;)

(I've won 9 of 10 rifle matches I shot in this year, using different rifles each time.. so some of it is undoubtedly the guy behind the bang-switch) :)

PS90 is high on my list of "universal" rifles.

Very lightweight, compact, can *easily* shoot accurately to 200 yards. I even lobbed them out to 300 yards as a joke during an F-Class match this year, prone, using the factory optics, and successfully put all 20 shots in a 16" circle. :)

I was cheating though. I rested the entire bottom of the rifle flat on the ground and used my pinky finger on the foreward grip to set my elevation. Was an incredibly accurate shooting position, and not altogether uncomfortable. It was funny, when I stood up I had a nice, tidy pile of brass (20 rounds) fall out of the ejection port. :)

The 10/22 and it's many conversions are definitely on my list. But I'm not entirely sure it will fill the need. It's just one of those guns I just might HAVE to get.

The ammo cost doesn't bother me that much. It's priced similarly to .308. Which is another one of my plinkers.

Would love to have a KelTec RMR, but who knows when those are going to come out.

Not interested in 5.7 upper. Just not the same to me.

There's boxes of .22 every time I go to the store. They have a limit on it, but I bought 1000 rounds in 1 day.. Must be different where you are

hmm, talk him out of a PS90?.. well, though the P90 design does have an interest from me due to it being a rather unique firearm in general, seem to be well made.. theyre also rather highly priced, im not in love with 5.7x28mm (a 7.62x25 will do about the same thing), you can only get the idiotic looking face suppressor or barrel that hangs way off the front unless you pay a ridiculous anti-constitution SBR tax and it would be expensive to shoot and really no more fun to shoot than a .22lr

and with that said the easiest way i could try to talk you out of it is by having you look at the many other rifles you probably dont yet own that you could get for the price of a PS90

SO many things I could spend that much money on that would make me happier. If it is what will make you happy, then go for it. But think about the other things that would be more usable for more things.

The 10/22 bullpup stock option sure is tempting. Would be a fun plinker and conversation starter at the range for sure. Darn it if there arent so many different guns pulling my wallet in different directions.

im not so sure id want a 10/22.. i mean, 22lr and auto loaders dont seem to get along as well as 22 in lets say a lever action.. but pistol caliber carbines are nice.. nice for home defense, share ammo with a handgun so you only need to stock up on one.. but i wouldnt get any new pistol caliber carbines, id rather have a suomi M31 or PPSH-41

I love mine. Used to have two. But, sold one last year to buy another rifle. I'd never part with the one I still have. Have owned a PS90 for 7 years now. Great gun...
