New Spike's Tac 16" middy and G19 range reports...

Howdy folks!

This has too many topics to easily pick a subforum, but my AR was the most interesting part of the trip.

Bud's Gunshop is a well-known website for gun deals. But they also have a couple of central KY stores (including Bud's Police Supply). Well now they've opened a new joint, The Gun Warehouse & Range. It's located in Lexington, KY and is really a smooth operation! It's got a large assortment of used guns (the ones found on Bud's Gunshop online) and piles of new ones. I didn't take part, but they also have machine gun rental.

The indoor range is sorely needed in central KY, there's almost nowhere decent to shoot unless you know someone who owns some land. The new facility houses a handsome standard 25 yard range with snazzy automated targets, an open ~15 line tactical range (for LEO or classes), and a soon-to-be-completed reactive steel range (pricey but very exciting).

Today was also their 'grand opening', so numerous companies were around to greet folks and show off products. There was a particular tactical light maker that was interesting, which I'll post more about later probably.

I also picked up a new Streamlight TLR1 that I've been wanting for a while, it's a slick light.

So, to the guns! I brought just three with me today. New Spikes 16" midlength on a DS lower, various magpul furniture. Glock 19 (installed 3.5# connector), and a Ruger 22/45. I'm sure many can appreciate the agony of this circumstance, but the Glock and AR have been sitting unfired for weeks!!! Scary stuff.

I started out with the 22/45, and after pulling my target back I noticed either I was jerking the trigger like a bastard or my sights were off. So I check out the rear sight and the damn thing has slid right ~1/4"! Enough to ruin a range trip. The Glock 19 did great. I kind of grew up on a 17, and shot a 33 for a couple of years in IDPA. The 19 was just a dream to shoot. I've missed the 9mm too! Reliability was perfect using ~300 rounds of a mix of brands (WWB, Independence, PMC) and the 3.5# connector was a winner. I've tried using the NY1 spring + 3.5# connector, but it was just too heavy.

The Franken-Spikes did great. I put about 500 rounds through it, certainly enough to get things 'hot'. There were no jams or malfunctions of any kind. Ammo, again, was a mix including Wolf 62gr, Wolf 55gr, PMC, very crappy Norinco ammo, and Fiochi. Accuracy was very good, but it was all shooter limited (I was not shooting from a bench, it was standing). The trigger is a heavy bastard, I might look for options to clean it up.

The Magpul BAD lever is still a toss-up for me. It didn't overwhelm me with it's usefulness (but I also had no jams to clear). I'll leave it on for now. The Magpul furniture was very comfortable, and I'm excited to get some MOE handguards when they come out next month.

Only a few crappy cell pics I'm sorry to say! But fun nonetheless.

Thanks for the review. I just got a Spikes midlength upper as well, haven't gotten a chance to take it to the range yet but this is encouraging info.
