I have used paper patched bullets in my 50-70. If the throat on your rifle is too sharp, it can be reamed to accept PP. The nice thing about PP lead is the way it smooths the bore and makes it shine. With PP you can cast the hunting bullet from pure lead or alloy it as hard as you like. That way you can predict the results it has on the game. I like mine cast from 30/1 or so lead/tin.
