New Ruger MAX-9

Looking over the manual / parts layout, striker block with a sear that looks very close to SA XD type. Aluminum serialized frame insert, handles +P, 10/12+1. Reversible mag catch. Overall looks like a good entry into the moderately priced carry market.

It's about time someone came out with a P365 clone that is hopefully going to be available for under $400 and I'm not surprised it's Ruger as they seem to have their stuff together when it comes to semi auto pistols. It looks like it's going to be thinner than the 365 by about .1 inches and they're putting a tritium/fiber optic front sight on them, so they definitely got their priorities figured out with this Max9.

Only thing I don't see is a rail for a light. I don't think that's a dealbreaker, most people are not slapping lights on their carry pistols, but if someone was looking for a one gun solution for carry and nightstand duty, the Max 9 could have been it, but Ruger didn't want to offer a rail model for some reason.

I guess they'll come out with that next year so everyone can by the same pistol twice.

If MAX-9 gets popular enough, it's not a deal breaker, iMHO. I have a TLR-6 on my Glock 42. And last time I looked, there were at least three more lights available: Viridian 5-R, LaserMax, Nightstick. It would be worse if Ruger put a proprietary rail on there and charged patent royalties from the manufacturers of lights.

I just saw it too, sort of looks like an LCP II on steroids.

They had to do something to update the LC9 and similars, the competition had better feeling/better shooting guns out for a while.

The front sight is a fiber optic, both sights are set for co-witnessing using some brands of red dots. If you’re not going that direction they look a little snaggy compared to the angled Novak’s.

I hope that they do as well with this gun as SA and SIG did with theirs .

Stay safe.

I’m impressed that they have a couple of dozen holster options (including Alien Gear and Desantis) lined up before the release. That’s pretty savvy total marketing!

On the other hand, you can’t buy extra mags for it...at least for a few weeks. You’d think they would have geared up production to cover the demand. So for the time being you’re stuck with the two that come with the gun.

The good news is those two mags will now hold about $35 worth of 9MM.

While I never went for the 365 or hellcat, I might eventually go for the Ruger, since I liked my LC9s.

I sure wish they would go with a steel rather than aluminum chassis. I guess it doesn't matter when most only ever run a few hundred rounds through their micro nines.

I’d like to shoot one, I might be interested. My Shield could go down the road if I like it.

I’ve shot a SA Hellcat, and a Sig P365. Not impressed with the Hellcat but I shot it well. The Sig was fine but it did not excite me, grip is pretty short in my hand. Maybe the Ruger will offer something that I can’t fine anywhere else.
Jeff.

I already have one on order through my FFL. Gunblast video said he measured the trigger at 3lbs 2oz.
Have a Romeo zero on the way for it also.

American Riflemans example measured 5 lbs 12 oz. And their description of the trigger wasn’t very impressive. My P365 has a trigger pull right under 6 lbs but it feels much lighter. None of the mushy take up and sponginess of the Rugers I’ve shot.
