Is the difference between this gun and a 637 just the Al alloy? (and thus the 1.7 oz weight reduction)...

I think it is just the frame alloy causing the difference.

That's a lot cheaper than the .357 version. And I think the old Model 37s weighed that much, too.

I've been wanting a scandium J-frame as a basis for some custom work but they are prohibitively expensive, until now anyway. I ordered one of these from Bud's because of the price and before I shipped it to the gunsmith I put around 50 rounds through it. It shot good, typical snubby, accurate and a bit snappy with +P ammo but that's to be expected since it's just 13oz. Typical S&W quality - nice fit and finish, great single action trigger, tight lock up and tolerances. In fact, it was such a nice shooting little gun I was tempted to just leave it alone! Anyway, IMO, these are a terrific deal for anyone looking for a scandium framed snubby at a great price.

These look like a nice deal sonsidering what I pad for my M&P 360.

Only difference appears to be the lack of a night sight and .38 only cylinder.. Seems especially nice for those who would only shoot 38 anyway.
