New S&W Shield Models

I have to admit that a 10-lb trigger is probably a deal-breaker for me.
Is the 10lb a MA/CA compliant model?
It states it's a 10lb trigger pull for the ones with 10 round magazines. I'm assuming that's in order to be complaint in certain states.
I think @TomJ may have nailed it. Someone on TFL mentioned that the 10# trigger may be for certain restrictive states and I now see that not every model has the 10# trigger listed.
I couldn't help myself, and one with no safety's been ordered. I hope to have it by the weekend.
You'll give us a range report, I hope?

This is a welcome change, at least for me. I never warmed up to the hinge trigger on my old shield back in the day. Smart move on S&W in my opinion.

I'm fine with the hinged trigger on the MP9C and Shield (both 1.0)

I have short fingers and the little extra smidgen that sticks out on the bladed trigger is often not my friend for most gun.

I realize that I'm the outlier in the customer base and agree it's probably a good move for S&W.

Either style works for me if the trigger reach is ok.

General market wise, I think youre probably right, though.

I wonder if they plan to changet the other existing models to that as well.....?

Absolutely. It'll be at least a week, as I just found out the 4473 was changed in November and requires the firearm info. We used to be able to fill out the 4473 before our FFL received the gun, which started the 3 day wait period. We now need to wait for them to receive the gun to fill out the form and wait 3 days from there.

Another good overview. I'm not seeing a downside here as long as it's reliable. Shield holsters even fit. And the grip is minimally wider. the original shield already had not-quite-single-stack mags anyway so the grip was actually wider than it needed to be.

I've spent some time on the web trying unsuccessfully to find out if the thumb safety on the new shield is ambi like the older models.
Anybody know for sure? The new ruger's safety is single sided only, as usual, making it a waste of material for us lefties.

The thumb safety on my original Shield is not ambi, it's right thumb only. Just from the photos on the S&W website it doesn't look like the Shield Plus thumb safety is ambit either. The thumb safety on the larger M&P pistols is ambi, or at least it was ambi on my 2.0 Compact before I removed it.

I've since been told by a reliable source that it's single sided only. I was probably thinking about one of their larger pistols. I was thinking that there might finally be a S&W semi auto centerfire pistol I would want to keep. (I like their .22s) Oh well.

The Shield 2.0 wasn't enough to get me to upgrade, but the more I think about this Plus, the more I think that it might be time. Being able to go from 8+1 to 13+1 without changing holsters and still getting (hopefully) the same reliability & shootability that I've seen in my 1.0 sounds like a heck of a deal to me.

The more I've learned about this new Shield I think S&W knocked it out of the park. The main gripes with the 2.0 were capacity vs the new micro double stacks and the hinged trigger and this fixes both. Plus it offers lots of variety in terms of two different stock iron sights and even an optic version, and two barrel lengths with ports or not. Throw in M&P reliability that equals Glock along with a friendlier (to me) grip angle, and this thing is a home run. Plus it'll fit my existing Shield holsters. The only rub is I'm perfectly happy with my old original Shield...this is definitely a want more than a need. The trigger upgrade and potentially going to an optic are the two things that are really appealing to me.

I too am happy with my original Shield. That and I invested in holsters, mags and carriers. The crunch will come when I decide to dump 1.0. Will it be Sig 365 or a newer Shield? Trying direct funds to things I really need, like ammo.

Unless I am sadly mistaken, the new Shield Plus will fit the holsters you have for your 1.0. Mags and pouches are a different deal, though.

I just got back from my LGS. They had 2. One with a thumb safety and one without. I got so far as to fill out the 4473 when I realized: (1) it comes with 2 mags, one 10 rounder and one 13 rounder; and (2) a quick online search turned up zero 13 rounders for sale. That means that I'd have to either give up a round compared to my current EDC setup; or continue carrying my 1.0. So I backed out. I guess I'll wait until the mags hit the market and/or the New Release Price drops a bit.

I bought a Performance Center Shield a few years ago and it was a train wreck since it came with a flawed barrel. Took S&W two months to return it and the 2nd barrel had a nick in the crown that was coated over. First barrel shot 12" groups. Second one shot 8" groups. Sold it and haven't even considered a Shield since.

Love my P365 and it is superior to the Shield, IMO, since it comes standard with night sights, is smaller and lighter, and will do 2" groups.

Now, if S&W comes out with a .40 S&W Shield Plus, in FDE, with night sights, safety, and retail is $450 or less, then I might be interested.

Until then, I'll stick with my wonderful Sig...

I fondled a Plus on Thursday with & without safety. My Shield 1.0 went up for sale this afternoon. The only thing I'm concerned about is...the market is suddenly flooded with 1.0 & 2.0's...

I handled a Plus on Saturday. It felt good. The only thing I was not liking was the smaller opening between the front of the trigger and the trigger guard. Seemed to me like the new style trigger has reduced the opening a little. It might be ok, just different than what I have been used to.

I sold my 9mm Shield 2.0 Saturday. I also have a 4 inch Performance Center one I listed for sale on my gun club’s forum. Both are great, but I don’t need them and the Plus versions, which are coming in tomorrow. I’ll be able to pick them up by Friday.

Nice...if you don't mind, did you have to take a bath on your 2.0? At the gunshow I went to on Saturday I saw guy sell his to a dealer for $200. (Zoo full of crazy people with ammo blinders only) Granted it was a dealer but still...

So I had understood that the Hellcat & the Sig 365's already came with night sights.
The Plus is said to have them offered...eventually but not yet & cost have not been released on those. Only thing they have release is the standard sights with & without a safety. I saw them for as low as $499.

Night sights, optic plate & "Performance" editions are forthcoming...no idea on cost yet though.

I sold mine for $400. It had Truglo TFO night sights and a 7 and two 8 round magazines with Magguts plus 2 spring kits. I didn’t get back what I put into it which is to be expected but we were both happy with the deal. The Performance Center one hasn’t sold yet. I don’t mind keeping it if my other choice is to take a bath on it.
