Anyone have any info on this particular gun, both good or bad?. It's a Star 9mm Largo made in 1952. Also what's the deal with 9mm largo, was this particular caliber ever popular beyond Spain? Appreciate all the help and info yall can give me!

They are basically a 1911 clone minus the grip safety.

They are great shooters and ammo isn't too hard to come by.

As far as the history and development of 9mm Largo --I have no idea.

I've got the exact same gun and have shot the heck out of it with no problems.

I probably should have said copy instead of clone --I can't think off hand of any parts that you can swap between the two (star and 1911).

I own a similar one....Reliable and accurate even though the barrel is somewhat pitted. Ammo is available through a few internet sites. Not sure how popular they are in the U.S.. Some might be hesitant due to parts availability and ammo sources. I believe Sarco (Shotgun News & Internet) has part kits, pistols & ammo. Nice find.
If you want another good source of ammo, let me know & I'll post it...:)

I just started a thread about that exact pistol a few days ago. I'm sure if you go back a page or two on this section of the forum, you'll find the thread and all the information people posted.

Good guns. Just DO NOT shoot 9mm Luger (9x19) or Winchester 9x23 no matter what anyone tells you. I wouldn't even try to shoot .38 Super out of them. Stick to the 9mm Largo or 9mm Steyr.
