Using lee turret press. New lee dies for the 223. Having problems with resizing. The casings hang in the die. Actually 3 out of five that I have tried have giving me problems. The dies are carbide. I evening tried using a lube. Not figured out yet why they are still hanging in the die. Any suggestions??

Lee doesn't make bottle-neck carbide rifle dies.

Your dies are steel.

You have to use properly applied case lube or you will stick every one you run up in the die.

Real Case Lube first, and your problem is over!

Just any old oil you have around won't work.

Do you clean the brass before sizing? Do carbide dies not normally require lube? The only time I have had a problem is when I didn't lube the case properly.

So far as I know, all bottle neck dies require lubing the brass.

Lube the brass with a real lube and you'll have no more problems, I promise.

The only brass that doesn't need lube is straight walled brass, and when used with a carbide die.

If his .223 die is a Lee, it is not carbide. Dillon makes a carbide .223 die, but you still have to use lube.

Carbide pistol dies do not require lube, but sure do run slick if you do lube.

You have to lube any case sized in a steel die. Always clean the brass first.

223 reloading issue

Thanks for all of the replies to my Problem.
I guess I should never Assume. I did re-check. my dies are not carbide, just like you said. I will get some case lube and go forth and reload.

Thanks Again

You need to read up on loading rifle more.

My steps:

1. Tumble clean.
2. Lube.
3. Full length resize
4. Tumble off lube.
5. Trim and deburr. Swage primer pocket if necessary.
6. Prime, charge, seat and neck tension.

Thanks to all who have responded to my question about the 223. After lubing the casings I resized over 400 without one sticking.

Do you have a good manual? There's probably someone around here with an extra one if you need it.

Did you run the cases through a case guage when you were setting up the die? It is easy to set the shoulder too far back or not enough.
