my first shotgun 
went out and bought it today, Gosh I love living in texas no waiting period I have had it less than like 5 hours, cant wait to shoot it

They're good but if you're gonna use standard birdshot don't use winchester shells, a friend of mine had this shotgun and it wouldn't fire them half the time but remingtons worked fine, of course that could have been his fault since he kept it poorly maintaned so just make sure you keep it cean and rust free and it should do fine, looks great btw

Txdude, the 88 isn't good, it's GREAT! I love mine! Never had any misfires, likes all types of ammo. Mine's set up like yours, with the shell holder, but mine has the other forearm. Just get a slip-on buttpad if you plan on shooting slugs, or magnum shells.

Ah, the 88 "Field" model. I have one too. I'm not much of a shotgunner but it works fine for me. See this review
Had some silly-fun a while back with mine
the "Tacti-cool" shotgun though I eventually pulled the stuff back off.
Then I found a Mossburg 500 ported "slug barrel" at the dirt cheap price of $85 which is what sits on it most of the time these days.

Ahh the maverick 88.
I have never hade a problem with mine at all, works 100% of the time.

The very first gun I ever bought was a Maverick 88, used, 18" cyl bore barrel, sidesaddle on the receiver. I had fun with that gun, 'lost' it though due to domestic issues on the part of the person who was storing it for me in their home. Didn't get a chance to sort it with the police before I moved, so I made the fella pay me for it and off I went.
Shoulda kept the gun.
