I have just bought a new XD 9 sub compact.:) For many years I used a Colt 380 as my CCW (excellent weapon). I thought it was time to try something more new school and with a little more fire power. I may even use it in a couple of IDPA club matches. It also looks good with the rest of my collection.:D I have not been able to shoot the XD yet. I bought it on the recomandation of the gun shop guy. That and the fact that he had the 4" mdl. on his hip. I would like to hear from anyone who has or has had one in the past. What can I expect from this firearm? Please give me any input good or bad.

Thanks

Congratulations you just purchased a very reliable and rugged pistol. I just posted this in another thread, so I will just copy and paste it here...

I just got a Springfield XD-9 sub-compact not too long ago for my primary CCW pistol. At first I was a little scared that I made the wrong decision on getting the 3" XD. I was worried I wouldn't be able to hit the broad side of a barn with such a short barrel. I went back and forth for a couple months and almost gave myself an ulcer trying to decide. I needed a good reliable CCW pistol, which is why I went with the sub-compact.

Thankfully I was very surprised that I actually shot my 3" XD-9 the same (if not a little better) than my friends 4" XD-9. I would say the 3" is every bit as accurate as the 4". I also got it with the stainless slide since stainless will hold up better to holster wear.

I skipped the night sights on my XD and put Crimson Trace laser grips on instead. Night Sights are great for low light range/competition shooting. In a life and death situation, you’re not going to have time to aim like you do at the range. Nor will most people be able to focus on the front sight and let the rear sights and the guy trying to kill you go blurry. That’s just not natural. With a laser, you can look over the top of the barrel while naturally focusing on the threat. At the same time you will have some feedback (laser dot) that you are on target.

I have one and I think it is great. I don't want to get your expectations up, but it has never jammed or given any problems. And, I am shocked at how accurate it is. Better than others that should be more accurate. Only thing I don't like is that sometimes the space between the extended mag and the frame will pinch my skin. No biggy really.

Keep up posted as to how it goes at the range.

Had a 40SC, did not enjoy shooting it. Swapped it for a 9SC, love it. Surprisingly accurate. Let everyone use it for a BUG stage at IDPA, shot well for everyone. Most concealble gun I've ever carried, in a Crossbreed Supertuck. I put Truglo TFOs on mine, wish I had just gone with Williams Firesights. I'll stick with regular sights, while you're focusing on your laser, I'll have two shots off, I don't care what the marketing department says.

Look at my list of guns in my signature, out of them all and along with others I don't own, the XD-9sc is the most accurate (along with my Ruger P345 but it is a full size).

It is a great reliable pistol. You made the right choice.

I have an XD 45 and have heard mention of the others. Everything I heard is that they are good reliable guns. If they are not the most accurate, they are accurate enough for most of us.

I have the XD 9 SC and it is my most trustworthy and reliable pistol. I have never had an issue with it, knock on wood.

first welcome to thr. i have 2 xds the service model and the sc model, they have both been perfect to date. they are reliable accurate and serve me well. though i shoot the service the most and i shoot best with it, the sc model is my favorite and my daily carry. congrtas and great choice.

I have the xd9mm 4 incher with Crimson Trace grips... Love it and have never had any problems,,, it's a breeze to strip and clean, and extremely durable.

I've had my Xd9sc for 3 years or so. It is accurate and has never had a failure of any kind. It is with me almost every day as CC gun or in my GHB.
About 1 1/2 years ago I also got the XD45 comp when they first came out. Same thing --accurate and no problems.
I love it when things do what they are supposed to do and my XD's do it well

I love my 9SC. When I purchased it I was deciding between the 9SC and the Glock 26. I literally sat int he warehouse and went back and forth between the two.

IN the end I decided to go with the XD not because it fit my hand any better but because I already had 2 glocks and I wanted something different.

THe other thing I really liked is the 16 round mag with the built in Grip extension.

Rayden, your XD is more accurate than your CZ? That is suprising to me. Hmmm. I think I shoot my xd better than my beretta, so I guess I could see it.

I am considering a CZ pistol, but don't know which one.

skinewmexico,

Can you give some clarification on why you'd choose the William's over the TruGlo's?

I'm currently looking into nightsites for my XD9sc

As far as the gun itself I like mine and it carries well in my Crossbreed Supertuck.

Unfortunately last time out shooting I had my first FTE. It seemed to happen when the gun was hot cause I'd shoot a mag and then on the next it'd FTE a couple rounds in. It happened like 3 times. When I let it be for 15 minutes or so it ran through a mag fine. Also I was using Blazer aluminum cased ammo. I'm hoping it's an issue that will be fixed by using different ammo.

As far as accuracy I feel I'm "combat accurate" enough with it within 25yds

Congrats on the new XD. I carry either a SC or Service in 9mm. They have both been flawless. For HD or CC, I recommend Speer Gold Dot 124g +P in your new 9mm SC.

The XD-9 Sub is one of my all time favorites.
Even with that short barrel it’s accurate from 5 to 50 yards, ya done good!

I was surprised by it too. I am not sure why, but from all the high praises that I get here regarding the accuracy of a CZ, I was surprised to consistently shot better with the XD than my P-01. I even chose to qualify with the XD for my CHL test in Texas.

My Ruger P345 is just as accurate as the XD, but it is a full size gun so I will give the edge to the XD in terms of accuracy vs. barrel lenght.

Now my wife claimed the XD as hers, and I put the laser grip for her enjoyment :D

My three most favorite(and accurate) handguns I own are a Sig P229 in 9mm, a Beretta 92FS, and a XD45 Tactical. All three have been 100% since new, and will tear a ragged hole in the center of the target if I do my part.

I think you'll be quite happy with your new XD.

I have 2 XD9s, a service and the SC. Surprisingly, I shoot my SC noticeably better than the 4". It has been totally reliable with various commercial rounds and handloads. It's one pistol I wouldn't part with.

Sometimes I cc my xd40sc and sometimes it just knocks around in the truck console. I bought a 9mm conversion barrel for it and truly did not expect it to be as accurate, but it is.

You get a lot for your money with the XD line whichever caliber you choose.

Thank you all for your comments on the xd9. Its nice to know I have made a wise choice. The next question would be. What sould be the next addition to my collection be?
