I wanted to mention a few things I've observed since I've been here. Think I joined in Nov or so 2011.
First off I am not a child, I was born in 1963. While I am not as seasoned as some of you I have well learned to respect my elders. I understand how much I can learn by simply watching and listening. And I am always grateful for the info I learn from such.
Can you imagine how many mistakes I have avoided just by observing a more experienced man, or by listening to his story's?
My friends, this forum is a wealth of knowledge, one with many different opinions, many different ways of achieving a similar goal, and many personalities.
While very few of us will ever agree 100% on exactly how things should be done, we all have an opportunity to see how others do it. Whether we learn anything from that or not we do not have a right in the context of an Internet community to insult others. Your candle will not burn any brighter by blowing out others.....
Since I have been here I have learned so much from you guys, but old members and new members. As I use to tell my staff when I was first officer on merchant marine vessels, sometimes ya learn what not to do, but if ya listen ya always learn something.
I'm tired of the bickering here, don't you guys know that I would love to spend a few hours with most of you so I could learn a little of what you know? Man you have so much to offer, there is no need to insult others to make your point.
Since I have been here I have sent private messages to a few members, they were all just the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet and tried to help me as best they could. Perhaps I choose those guys because I didn't see them attacking one another in the main forums. And at least one of em is a hell of a lot younger than me, yes you can learn from the youngsters when they have their head on straight.
Before I make this late statement, I want to explain something about myself.
I spent 17 years in the Merchant Marines before my eye site forced me to retire. I founded an Internet community not too unlike this one, although firearms is not the topic. Most of our core members have been there since it was founded or within the year it was.
To date we have over 120,000 members and I not only be sure my staff understands everyday, it is posted in the members FAQ that "no member is more important than another", we all have something to offer.
So guys please, if nothing else I said makes any sense please consider this. Behind that screen you are reading, behind that keyboard we are all typing into, is a person, a person with feelings. Think about that sometime please.
As a moderator said here not too many threads ago.... "If we were all sitting down having coffee we could have this discussion very civilly, even though we disagree".
It's true, think about it.... And be nice..
