I replaced the cheapo Simmons scope that came with my Savage 110 with a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. It has a Realtree finish, and I think its matches my rifle's Ramline Realtree stock pretty well. I used Traditions steel rings, also finished in Realtree, and a B-Square 1 piece base.

I got the scope, rings, and base installed, mounted, and boresighted at SWFA's physical store location in Red Oak, TX. The folks there are awesome, and I'd recommend them: www.swfa.com

I really like the way it turned out, and wanted to show it off a little. :D

Looks pretty good, and the pattern is about right for hunting around Ft. Worth. The Prostaff is probably the best scope in it's price range. I'd call that a good setup for TX deer.

Thanks!

The rifle shot very well with the Simmons scope, so I'm hoping that it shoots even better with the Nikon. I'm intending to get to the range to get it sighted in either this afternoon or tomorrow. I'll be sure to let yall know how it does!

What kind of Simmons scope was on it? Some of them I would consider Cheapos, but I own three Aetecs and think they're on of the best vaules in a lower priced scope out there. Some would disagree, but I've had good luck with them.

I'm not sure. It was a 3-9x40, not sure of the model, just whatever Savage packaged with the rifle as a combo. On the bottom of the scope, it has gold numbers "800878". I'm guessing that its a model number.

I think it is one of their discontinued Entry level scopes. The model number is an older one that doesn't match any model number in their current catalogue. They were on a par with the lower end Tasco's and probably a notch above the Bushnell Sportview series.

Don't own one, but I have also heard the Nikon ProStaff's are a really good scope for the bucks.

My rings are "medium". I'm not sure what they actually measure.

I cant comment on ejection issues, as I have been really busy and havent taken it to the range yet.

Caliber is .30-06 Springfield.

I could really use your help it seems because I have the same rifle and scope. I am having trouble it seems you have aleviated by using the 1 piece base. Eye relief with my current luepold rings and bases is way off. I really need to move the scope back another inch to the position yours sits in.

I'm having a similar problem mounting my Monarch on a 114 American Classic. I'm using two piece Weaver bases. The scope just does not fit. The straight section of the tube is too short (or the distance between bases is too long). I'm looking at using a Weaver #402 extended base --perhaps two of these will set the scope back far enough for better eye relief.
