My interpretation was that Anton got the money out of the went, since an opened vent is show with what I'm told are drag marks in it from the suitcase, with the dime used by the permanently screwdriverless Anton lying meaningfully on the floor. It's not an absolute guarantee that Anton got the money, but it's the kind of movie that errs on the side of being subtle.

As someone mentioned before, the Mexican gang didn't have time to find the money, which we can assume was in that vent.

The Road and No Country are good, but his best book is Blood Meridian--I would say it blew me away, but overuse of that phrase would prevent the full impact of that book from being conveyed. Whereas No Country and All the Pretty Horses focus on the loss of purpose and sense of belonging that comes with a changing of one's world, Blood Meridian seems more interested in the question of purpose and belonging in the face of death and being forgotten, in addition to the other themes it explores. That book is deep as hell, though that fact can be obscured by the abundant and brutal violence in the story.

It's funny but also in the book Chigurh makes it clear why he hunted down the money in the first place....and it wasnt because he just wanted to keep it all.

Anton

I look at the can and think this is an 1100 in .410 shooting slugs through a .45 cal Can. it was making .45 cal holes in the windshield of that truck.

He had switched to a suppressed TEC-9 in that scene.

x2 on Cormac McCarthy's writing. "Blood Meridian" is the best novel I've ever read, but all of his books are worth reading.

Also, the movie version of No Country features a lot of anachronistic weapons and vehicles. The Ramcharger is a mid-80s model, a K-car can be seen in the background of one scene, a Tec-9 is used, blah blah blah... it goes on. The movie is supposed to take place in 1980 but if I'd had to guess from the props I'd have said 1990.

Than again, in the book Anton is armed with a Glock which were not available until the mid-80s.

In the DVD commentary for the movie they mention one of the biggest challenges was recreating a time when things were not so different from today.

I've been working on sub-sonic loads for HD using #4 buckshot. According to the loading data I obtained from Ballistic Products, if the velocity of the shot is slower than the speed of sound, it won't make the loud bang. These loads are about 950 fps, speed of sound is about 1150, I think.

It has reduced recoil, but the sound is still louder than I wanted. Will still penetrate a 3/4" pine board at 30 ft. I'll keep working on it. If any of you want the receipe, let me know.

Moss should never have gone back to that Mexican with his jug of water.

On the subject of 'silencers' - more properly 'moderators'. One of the odd quirks of our namby-pamby EU led firearm law is that we can buy them for pretty much any firearm under health and safety legislation - helps protect ours and others delicate ears.

If he hadn't, he would not have suspected anyone was after him -- so "Sugar" would have tracked him down from the radio beacon in the money case. (and the movie would have only lasted a half-hour)

Right. It LOOKS like doing the right thing got him in trouble, but doing the right thing probably saved his family's life.

Of course, getting greedy didn't help things, either...

I can see a silencer on a shotgun working with a slug.

But the shotgun in No Country for Old Men? Wouldn't the wad fall apart when it left the barrel and entered the suppresor? That's the one thing stopping me from think a setup like in the movie is possible.

Now, if the WHOLE barrel was a suppressor, than I can see it, the wad would have nothing to catch on.

Not when the silencer is built like this.

I have read that some shotgun silencers just use baffles with a large bore and require that felt wads be used instead of shot cups.

so "Sugar" would have tracked him down from the radio beacon in the money case."

Not so! Without the VIN number off his truck he wouldn't know which direction to head and thereby get within tracking range of the beacon.

Lousy movie. No beginning, no end.

Written as a sort of reverse take on mystery thrillers, where the cop gets the clues but doesn't do anything, and everyone slowly dies.

Intriguing from a literary perspective, at arm's length, but not worth watching as a story told on film.

Utterly lacks the humor of most Coen Brothers films. Characters are simple stereotypes used as vehicles to make a simple point. Seems like it's made to be watched for student paper assignments in college, not much else.

Waste of a couple hours.

Someone should have warned me.

Here's your warning if you haven't seen it, and you value your time.:)
