Ok, now that I got your attention.
This was straight from the mouth of a Summerville, SC PO!!!
I merged in front of a marked police vehicle while exiting a bank and sat at a red light for a while with him behind me.
As the light turned and we started moving, he lit me up and I waved out the window and put my flashers on while I searched for a safe place to pull over. I ended up in a lawyers parking lot!
I rested my forearms on the steering wheel while he approached.
He said he pulled me over for the year on my tag being '08, not '09.
I'm in a company vehicle while working in SC for a few weeks.(I'm a NC resident).
He asked if I had any bombs, grenades, etc.. "Uh, no, but I have a concealed handgun permit from NC and have a firearm."
"Where is it?"
"In the console, there." while using a pointing motion from shoulder height.
"Step out of the van."
He then goes to the area and fetches it. He then unholsters my P3AT, ejects the magazine and racks the slide to eject the chambered round.
"I appreciate you being honest with me about this."
"By law, sir, I have to."
"License and registration."
"It's in my pocket, can I get it for you?"
"Go ahead."
I hand him my NCDL and NCCHP. (no registration, I'd have to dig in the van for it if asked again.)
He, actually, both of them, get back in their car and "run things".
He finds the registration is in order, just that the sticker wasn't on the plate and everything else is in order.
He comes back to me, handing me my Kel-Tec, magazine and the hollow point he ejected. Then he says, "You're supposed to have my gun in the glove box or on your person (FYI) and that SC doesn't recognise any other state's concealed weapons permits." :banghead:
"Well, sir, NC and SC have reprocii--, reprocip, repro...ummm." (I can never pronounce that word for agreement between states!)
"You better read your laws. You've been nice and honest, and I appreciate that, so I'll just dismiss this if you come back and show me the '09 sticker on the plate before 04/??/09 and won't mention you cutting me off in traffic and the handgun thing."
"Thank you, sir, have a nice day.'
What!!?? An illegal concealed handgun and no arrest!? (to his thinking). I appreciate the laxity, but the ignorance???!
I intend to show him the sticker on the palte when replaced and a copy of SC state handgun laws!!
All good, just glad he didn't notice the unbagged 32 rd 10/22 magazine I just purchased!
