Dear THR:
For non CCW, mostly on table/stand, which do you prefer: X5 Allround or Glock 17L?

Thank you

I dislike conventional double action semi-auto triggers. Everyone I've tried was awful.

I have two Glocks, a 19 and a 22, and after installing 3lb. connectors, really like the triggers. I would go with the 17L.

Of the two, I'd pick the G17L mainly because all my other SD semiautos are Glocks and I'd like to maintain that commonality. If that wasn't an issue, either one are excellent guns so you can't really go wrong.

Given the choices, Glock 17L. Always on ready when you wake up.
A shorter barrel Glock would be handier.
The X5 would be like driving a Rolls Royce to a Seven Eleven.

Go hold them both and see which one points better, or even better yet try to shoot them both and then choose. There are multiple guns I thought I'd love and went to the LGS with money in hand to buy, pick it up and find it just feels downright awkward.

Had to vote Glock, for no other reason than its advantage is cost. Thinking about an evidence tec. engraving an X5 brings tears to my eyes and IMO the X5's advantage is accuracy. At HD distances, that's a small advantage easily outweighed by capacity.

Had to go 17L 'cause I already own one and it is one of two dedicated "house guns"- the other being a HK USP45.

The sig. Because although the glock is well made and reliable, it can't hold a candle to a X5.

I think the 17L is a great gun

Long sight radius, a lot of forward mass and hardly any muzzle flip.

I don't know why you'd need something smaller - it's not like we're talking about a carbine here.

I voted SIG X5 because the guns design and ergonomics work better for me than a Glock 17L.

The X5 will spank any glock all day long. Shooter performance/ability aside, the 17L can't keep up. There's more to accuracy than a long barrel. And if muzzle flip is a consideration in 9mm full size pistols, you don't know what you're doing or you're entirely too feeble to use a gun.

Why not G30, carrots, apples or baseball bat? Because its not an open ended question. It is specific to 2 options. Thanks.

I'm a simple man, and I like simple things. If I was woken up in the middle of the night, I want a simple firearm to manipulate while half-asleep. Therefore, the G17L would have my pick of the two.

The Glock 17L is to front-heavy for my tastes, I much prefer the Sig X5. That and I also generally shoot Sigs better than Glocks.

However, this is not a choice that I will ever have to make because 1. I will never have the money to buy a Sig X5, and 2. there are better suited guns for this job (for me). I would prefer to have a Glock 34.....just trying to find one.

I have a reasonably nice assemblage of firearms and they aren't the ones used for HD, with the exception of a carbine.

LOL or his MP5K, UMP, Glock 18, M249, M16, G36, P90, RPG, etc.

All that supposed firepower and we're deciding on which pistol is ideal for home defense.
No kidding. It's like A-Rod asking which WalMart baseball bat is most likely to produce a home run.

There's nothing wrong with this question, and there might be someone, someday, who truly does need to choose between these two handguns for HD, but it doesn't seem like the OP is one of those people.
