Not a Glock?!?

If you can shoot a Glock accurately, then by all means buy one.

My experience was a little different. I've owned 2 Glock 19s, a 27, and a 26. I tried forcing myself to like them because I liked the firepower they pack in such a small/light/durable package. The problem was that I sucked at shooting them! Maybe it was the grip angle, I don't know for sure.

After I bought my first H&K (a USP .40 Compact) I sold all my Glocks immediately. The H&K was so much more accurate in my hands right from the start. I also appreciate the quality of H&Ks. From my experience, they are better built and more reliable than a Glock. However, they also cost $300 more, which to some people is very significant.

The point is, Glock makes a great polymer gun for the money..IF you can shoot them. However, I do believe there are better options.

to me they are confusing - I cannot shoot mine well enough to hit a barn from the inside, but hand it to my buddy and he shoots one-ragged-hole !!!!

Thanks for all the comments and encouragement.

To those that don't like them or just drop negative comments, thats fine. I don't really like the new hammers with the carbon fiber nano-structure handles, I prefer the old wood handle models with the steel head. It's a tool and for the job at hand, in my hand it is the most effective tool I've found.

Fact is I'm no newbie around here or around guns in general. At one time or another I've owned and or extensively shot almost everything out there. 1911, BHP, CZ75, HK USP, Springfield XD, S&W M&P and Ruger P-series. Plastic pistols never stay around too long for one reason or another. I "like" 1911s and BHPs but nothing I've shot yet has been so instictively accurate for me.

I'm gonna buy one not because I like it or because it's pretty. It won't be shown off to friends or bragged about like a proud parent. It will be tucked in close, hidden from the public and friends alike but I will know it will put rounds on target if/when the need arises.

my Glock 19 is the best, it runs circles around everything else I have, and I pretty much have them all.

I don't get it....

Assuming you know how to shoot and are accurate with other handguns...

Regardless of grip angle, if you're lining up your rear sights and front sights to the target, I just don't see how anyone can shoot a Glock (or any handgun) poorly.

Glocks have a different feel to them. Some people take longer to get used to them than others. I think folks who have spent years using guns with a traditional SA or SA/DA trigger have a harder time adjusting than someone with limited experience.

I also believe that the human hand is amazingly adaptable and anyone can learn to shoot a Glock or any other gun. I don't put a lot of stock into the "It does not fit my hand argument." There are exceptions, some people with very small hands will struggle with the old S&W revolver grips or the G20and G21, but I feel I could be comfortable with almost any reliable gun out there after about 200 rounds to get used to the gun.

i never liked the looks personally, but my 19 is absolutly amazing! would never get rid of it, wouldnt trade it for a new Wilson CQB or anything (bold statement i know) its just a amazing gun, ive ran it on over 1k rounds before cleaning ect.

Another Glock hater here. I hate the looks of the Glock. I hate the way the Glock feels in my hands. Yet........I shot a G19 very well. Surprisingly well, actually.

Now I can't discount that ugly gun that doesn't quite feel right in my hands as a future purchase.

I had a Glock 22 that shot well, was reliable like any Glock, but I had to adjust my grip after each shot. It was a first generation and I couldn't get it to be accurate as I wanted it to be. I traded it for an XD40 which fit perfectly and is accurate for me. That said, I ran across a third gen G22 and wow! The finger grooves make a whole difference. The gun fits like a glove and is easy to hold on target. Now all I need to do is to save up for another Glock. Even though I love my XD, Glocks are the easiest of any pistol to work on and they have the least number of parts. My 2 cents.

Glocks do nothing for me on an emotional, gun-lust level. I do rent one (either a 17 or 19) at the range from time to time and I always shoot well with it. For me, it comes down to the trigger and the grip; while I find the trigger PULL pretty awful, it breaks cleanly with short and tactile reset. Also, I find the grip angle to be odd and, if I grip it "naturally" the way I grip my Beretta M9 or 1911, it points high. Using a high-hold, thumbs forward grip and cranking my wrists forward to get it pointing accurately yields an immense level stability and control for quick followup shots. Combine this with the low bore axis and good sights (can't say that I like them, but they WORK) makes the Glock an easy shooter in my book.

One of these days, I'll probably pick up a G19.

Glocks are one of (If not THE MOST) reliable and best quality pistols in the history of the gun world. Look at the track record and all the different departments/military forces that choose the Glock. Look at it's popularity. Look at all the torture test videos and cited reports. User friendly, decent price, GREAT GREAT GREAT RELIABILITY, ease of maintenance, etc. This gun is a modern marvel; and who says it is ugly? Glocks are NOT ugly :neener:

I don't hate Glocks. I hate the way they look. Like a big ole brick. I know without a doubt they are marvelous weapons. I considered one a few weeks back but went with the CZ instead. Great feel and pretty to look at.

I also didn't want to like this gun, first time I picked it up. The huge sights, wide and slick grip, and the large, clunky trigger gave me the impression that it was designed to shoot minute-of-broadside-of-barn. Once I started putting bullets downrange, that first impression faded quickly.

I too did not care for Glocks... until last November, when I handled a loaded Glock 17 for the first time. I decided to start shooting in USPSA matches and purchased a G34. Now my times are near the bottom of most lists, my scores for hits is the best or near the best in production class. Buy a Glock, the mags are the best, they shoot great and if you ever want to get rid of it...I know a guy that is interested in a G19... Me!

I have never owned a GlOCK, I have XDs, a Kimber 1911, and a Ruger SA wheelgun. I have shot Glocks in 9mm .40 and .45 and I did much better than I expected with them. I do not hate any inanimate object but I have refused Glocks due too their fan base but by basing a descision on that alone I am only hurting myself. Hell 1911 guys are just as passionate.
These days I'm not buying anything but if I came across one at a good price, or a buddy that needed money, I wouldn't turn it down... and after getting comfortable with the operating system I certainly wouldn't feel like I was at some disadvantage by carrying it.

Software not hardware.

I couldn't have said it better myself, spyderdude!

Yes, yes...YES!!! The dark side!!! Our pastries and confectionaries are something outta this world.......!!!! *menacing laughter*

my opinion

well i know that glocks are very reliable and very "futuristic" to me and all of that jazz, and what i have heard about them being a very very great gun.
but the problem is i held a CZ and then i held the glock before i bought my cz, and i just can't get over how amazing the grip was on my cz. so i went with the cz. it was the grip angle that i hated about the glock and that is it.
it is a pretty funky looking gun though. reminds me of something from star trek or star wars or something like that. and the glock didn't fit in my hands that well at all. that is the only reason why i did not go with the glock.
otherwise i would have. i will probably get one some day.
who knows?

I had always hated glocks. Then I rented a G26 at my local range. BIG mistake. That mistreated rental shot point of aim every time. I went and picked one up about two years ago. Glad I did...it is a great CCW and complements my CZ PCR just fine. BTW I was also a 9mm hater and now I have two of them as CCW pieces.

I love my Glocks

Unfortunately, to some people at least, that is like admitting you like fat chicks and mopeds.:what: Currently I only have two, a Model 23 and, a 32 in 40S&W and 357 Sig respectively. The 19/23/32 are all the same size and I prefer the 40 over the 9mm. That said, I would not feel undergunned with a 19 on my hip and, right now I am thinking about buying one just for practice.
You might take a look at www.summitgunbroker.com. He often has Glock trade ins at great prices. He is a great guy to deal with, I have bought two guns from him.
