Not finding brass like I used to

Not in what I normally shoot, revolver calibers. If I needed 9mm and 5.56 I could bring home buckets. I did score some last month shooting my HR218 course. About 8 of us still qualify with a revolver as a second gun. So I made mention of nobody wanted their brass I would take it. Left my shooting bag open on the bench and got rewarded with 300 once fired pieces. I totally get the OP’s point.

The environmental protection laws here are extremely reasonable and necessary. You have to live here to understand. We’re a sandstone and limestone peninsula, not solid granite like other parts of the world. Our water is in a sand table, not an aquifer like the valleys and plains. Once a metal dangerous to humans like lead gets into the water table it is almost impossible to remove. Sadly, we are constantly inundated by ignorant yayhoos who don’t understand or take the time to think about these things and pollute our environment without a care. I wish we could keep those dangerous idiots out but we can’t. All we can do is try to keep them from spreading harm with simple precautionary measures, like regulating businesses. It’s not a 100% fix but it’s a start.
Did not know you were such a environmental guy! Very Cool man!

It's that mystical place that used to sell wheel weights for casting and where one can go for man project supplies. It's like the rockler of woodworking for guys that make sparks instead of man glitter.
When I used to do maintenance at an indoor range I would load up buckets of brass, blazer aluminum, copper and lead all mixed in and take it to the scrap yard. Nobody wanted it on the range side. Took what I needed and made a few hundred monthly. Would not get a clean price but they loved to get it. That as mid 90’s and good money for cleanup. My current indoor facility is happy when you take the brass in the buckets with you. Just slim picking for anything useful.

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away, I could scoop up buckets full of 38 SPL brass at my range. 9MM brass however was a buy new ammo and shoot it proposition. In the recent past it had reversed completely LOL. Now it seems non shooters have found out that brass is a money making venture. Steel or aluminum is still not worth picking up yet but that day may be coming. You have to be serious to pick up several hundred scattered .22 brass, or maybe seriously broke. Whatever the reason I have never seen the ground at our local range as clean of brass as it currently is now.

38 and 30-30 used to be range fodder that basically you could scoop up to your hearts content. Now you could grab 9mm and 223 the same way. This crunch hit us and good luck finding a 30-30 laying around.

Found two 30-30 this morning. Added them to my stash I'll be reforming to 22 Savage.

Went to the range the other day. Had a great shoot and the bonus was being able to pick up. 45-70, 270 Win, 30-06, 30-30, 357 mag and 6.5 Creedmoor. All of it was from shooters shooting factory ammo and all of them let me have their brass, happily. I took only what I needed to replenish my stock and left the bulk of it for the other reloaders if they wanted it. This happens very infrequently but I almost always can find brass if I need it. 223 and 9mm are the most plentiful.
