Of course, none of the news outlets are repeating this, but Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard responded to a question about gun laws saying we already have enough gun laws... they just need to be enforced. Gave several examples, including people who aren't prosecuted for lying on the 4473.

If anyone sees his comments in print, would you be so kind in posting them here? I looked, but no luck do far.

I don't have the printed comments, but I did watch live on the press conference immediately following the Oxford school shooting. I thought this officer did an overall outstanding job of handling what had to be a very difficult situation. I agree with the OP's observation about Undersheriff Bouchard's practical, real-world take on existing gun laws.

The immediate cause for any crime is the desire of the person committing the crime. No one commits a crime sheerly from being in possession of an artifact. Fast cars do NOT cause speeding (or consequences), the driver desires to go fast. Pry bars do NOT force anyone to pry open a window and burglarize a house. Guns do NOT force individuals to rob or shoot others.

To argue the converse of anything about is to give the inanimate object some form of mind control and a specific desire. (Perhaps a 'haunt'?)

We have a a whole lot of gun laws that are meant to hold criminals accountable when they commit a crime, when they use a gun, when they carry a gun illegally, and they are not utilized today. That’s one of our constant concerns around the country…we see this across the nation, we catch somebody illegally with a gun and it’s pled down to a misdemeanor and they’re out.
