So, I have been seeing the early signs of the end of this ridiculous feeding frenzy. It appears to be happening sooner than I expected.

-First of all, the local classifieds are flooded with "evil" rifles and hi-cap mags by folks who still think they can get $800 for a WASR-10, and $40 for a Chinese 30-rounder. The ad's that used to only last a day or so (sometimes only a few hours) are now sitting for a week or more with no buyer.

-Second of all, the gun shops that have been ruthlessly riding the wave of price hikes are finally hitting the consumer price threshold. One shop has had the same three cases of Brown Bear x39 Russian on the floor for over a week now... they want $289 for a case of Rooski AK ammo :what:.

-Third of all, people are more broke than ever. Unemployment figures are well over 7%, consumer confidence indexes are painfully low, and people are actually saving cash again:confused:. Major credit card firms have recently announced hefty APR hikes and other consumer-repelling changes to their terms and conditions. This will all serve to dissuade a lot of folks from buying things they cannot buy in cash.

I have to admit, I thought the spree would last until early summer. Either way, I can't wait for the bubble to burst so I can afford to shoot something besides .22 again.

This will only get worse.
I am seeing ARs more available from distributors. Not a lot, but supply is easing a little.
I am seeing some deals on ammo and supplies going back to normal.
The longer the administration does nothing on guns the more assurance people have that it won't.
And those guys who bought 5 ARs thinking they were going to be gold will be sitting unemployed with 5 unused rifles in the closet and a mortgage to pay.

My personal State of the Panic dipstick is the length of the order delay at AIM. It's still at 12 days, so not much relief yet.

Interesting how the cards are tumbling down. I've run into more people in the last week who are in financial dire straits, than in the past 5 years. Prices will come down. We are heading into a depression despite all the whoohaw from the government.
I believe people will be doing more bartering for needed items, and that will cause prices to plummet.

Yeah right.

I'll use my local Sportsman's Warehouse as a gauge in these things.

When I see one AR in Sportsman's Warehouse, I'll believe it.
When I can finally buy the XD45 magazines I've been after, I'll believe it.
When their wall, where pistols hang is no longer empty, I'll believe it.
When pistol ammo returns to their shelves, I'll believe it.

I sure hope things are coming to an end because I'm behind on my purchases. The shelves just continue to be bare for now.

Better to use discount sellers, and online discount sellers. Sportsmans Wharehouse is not a discount seller. Its more a specialty sporting goods store. I think some things will not be available after awhile because nobody will be able to manufacture those items cheaply enough.

Cromo,
Every local gun shop around here has not one, but several AR's on the rack. Plus they are starting to have hi cap mags again... I saw lots of AR, AK, and Glock mags this weekend. (not sure about XD, but I bet you'll see them soon)

I'd recommend you leave Sportsmans Warehouse and check out a local gun shop with better distributors. Or better yet, take your search to the internet.

One shop has had the same three cases of Brown Bear 39R on the floor for over a week now... they want $289 for a case of Rooski AK ammo .

actually thats not a horrible price. maybe 25-30$ high.

also "R" at the end of a caliber notes its a rimmed round, not that its Russian.

sorry, pet peeve

I recall my grandmother telling me in 20s and 30s there was no ammo to be had, she told me about my grandad hunting rabbit with a tap stick, yea they had guns, but no ammo! I wish she was still around so i could find out how to make a (tap stick) looks like we will all need one! I have seen people trade guns for ammo in the last few weeks, a lady at wm said that they didnt know when they would be getting any ammo in, are they just holding it back? Selling a little at the time? I am having a hard time finding primmers, i have a good bit of powder, and just started casting my own bullets, when will this get better? Or will it? Im always a day late and a doller short!

$289/case

I beg to differ... it is a horrible price considering that less than a year ago it was $199/case for the same stuff. Thats a 45% increase in less than a year... if that doesn't qualify as "horrible", I don't know what will.

And 2 years ago, it was $100 case. Saw someone selling Brown bear, a case for $192 on Greybeards Forum today.

KB, you got some nice local gunshops in SLC. I used to live on the Wyo border on I-80. I'm envious.

Obama has been president all of two weeks now. You make it sound like time has proven that Obama will not act on guns. Right now Obama is still trying to learn where the bathrooms are in the White House.

I do not believe it is likely that the Obama administration will push for a free standing AWB. However, before the end of the first term, I believe that a new AWB will be added on to some critical piece of legislation. I suspect it will be added as an amendment at the last minute, with little discussion, and with little time for the NRA and other groups to do anything about it.

hasnt been 199 for atleast a year. all the in store (read NOT ONLINE) prices i saw over the summer were 225-230. by this point id easily expect 250

hate to break it to you. prices rise. they will continue to rise even with out obama

That is what I am trying to say... and it has nothing to do with his 2 weeks in office.

I'm sure he wants to act against gun owners, but I am really doubtful as to weather he will... especially in his first term... especially before the mid-term elections right around the corner.

Mr. Obama may be a lot of things, but stupid he is not.

Anyway, don't confuse the bursting bubble with "you can relax now". We will have to watch this administration very closely.

I saw for around $199 locally about a year ago, and a little less than $100 2 years ago. Must be a regional thing. But do the math. Its a horrible increase.

And considering the increase in gang wars in a very unstable Mexico, and my belief that every American has the right to defend himself, this Demo president and congress, will assurredly work at an AWB in time.

I hate to break it to you... 45% in a year is not normal price growth caused by normal inflation. Actually, the majority of that price growth happened violently since November. Thanks for attempting to educate me though.

I went to a gun show in Kingsport, TN this weekend. There were lots of guns for sale, and the EBRs were running at more typical/normal prices. Still not much ammo, though.

We are heading into a depression despite all the whoohaw from the government.

I have all but quit watching the news because of all of the sensationalism that the talking hairdos constantly spew. I may have to quit coming around here for awhile with the above doom and gloom attitude becoming more prevalent. The media outlets yell "The sky is falling, the sky is falling" twenty-four hours a day until everyone finally decides to quit spending money to weather the storm. Now, they are on the front page yelling at us that we are saving too much money and that that is not good for the economy. Yes, things are bad, but I am convinced that things would be much better if the media would shut the h*ll up and the government would stay out of th way. Unfortunately, I am quite sure that that will not happen.

As for the buying spree coming to an end - I thought is was ending where I live until I went into my favorite shop today. The place was feeling a little empty.:what:

alright, what ever. i saw the prices 6 months ago, and it wasnt 199 in stores around me, no matter how much attitude you give me.

while MA has always had crap prices, CT, ME,and VT all had similar (though slightly lower) prices.
