OC in Cleveland

Philly is hostile to open or concealed now. As I was told when I transported a friend to phil. airport, even w/permit they would likely confiscate your gun and it would/could take a very long time to get it back/if ever. They force you to prove ownership/receipt of purchase, any and every block they can come up with. If it's a high $ and valued gun,you can bet someone in the legal system has their eye on it for purchase @ confiscation auction.(or swap parts while it's in the property room)

Pain or not, Steve Loomis want totally overboard on emotion. He's not fit for his position in my book.

We have had enough shredding of the Constitution, by bureaucrats, great and small.

We have also had enough undermining of our police by elected officials.

It's an elected post and the rank and file apparently do not share your views as he was in, then out and then back in over the past several years. Loomis in my opinion is sometimes an idiot and attention whore but he is doing his job.

What is also happening is the media, especially the local media with a focus on the Cleveland Plain Dealer Newspaper) is really making more of most of this than there really is to it. Showtime is tomorrow so we shall see how things play out. There will be protest and that is a given. Downtown is not in my plans anytime soon. :)

I'm hoping the whole convention goes down without so much as a heated exchange of words. But i don't think that's realistic. Too much emotion rather than logic, too much biased rhetoric o both sides, too much catering to special interest groups at the expense of the general public.

Should OC be suspended? No. But groups like the New Black Panthers and Bikers for Trump need to be less concerned about "my rights" and little more concerned about common sense in the exercise of those tights.

I work in Cleveland and can see the Terminal Tower from my parking lot. That's as close as I plan to get to downtown.

When my brother lived in Cleveland he called it the "Pain Dealer". That was in 1960-62 and it hasn't changed a bit. They really despise guns with a passion. IIRC , they gave out all the concealed carry holder addresses they could find several years back.

Several gun boards, including THR, had discussions about their duplicity. .No shame at the Dealer.

Ohio has slowly accepted open carry to the point that people aren't running away in fear when a weapon is worn. At least from what I've seen in the Dayton area. As for Kasich, his office has said they have no authority to do so.

Yeah, they were publishing the names of CCW permits issued. That got ugly. With this entire RNC thing they are simply baiting and wanting bad things to happen. It's obvious who they pander to.
Regarding te entire stupid Black Panther thing is was never true. Within 24 hours the Black Panthers came out and rescinded everything and claimed they had no plan for open carry. When the actual protest went down yesterday with the people they planned to "protect" it was a farce with less than 100 protesters.
Anyway, I feel for those who have to work downtown this week. 1911 guy I wish you the best with traffic and all. Just be careful.

One commentator on Fox tonight noted that he would be much less concerned about an open-carrier in plain sight of officers than a guy with a rifle hiding on a rooftop.

I don't have the exact quote, but it has been written that protection of civil liberties is not too big a deal in times of peace and quiet, but it is in times of stress that those protections are most needed.

Assuming the exercise of first and second amendment rights will necessarily conflict only diminishes the exercise of both sets of rights, or plays one off against the other.

Sadly, there's also an element of self-fulfilling prophecy here, as in it is practically assured there WILL be some manner of violence at this point. This statement still stands, though, and our rights will only persist so long as we have faith in our fellow man overwhelmingly acting in accordance with the laws and peace among their fellow citizens.

Otherwise, why not just call the Guard or even Army out to knock heads and keep things under wraps? And why not do so permanently? If repression of our rights creates such a controlled and 'safe' environment, why should be bother with any of them, as though they are a necessary evil, or worse, mere luxury?

Rather than a rallying cry to ban carry, the OC protesters who harmed no one and behaved admirably in the face of chaos should have been held up as proof that we all really CAN be expected to behave, even in extreme circumstances (regardless their politics & actions up to the first shots, everyone from the guy on camera to the Huey Newton supremacists did nothing wrong with regards to firearms)

Exactly; we protect these freedoms precisely so we WILL have them in times like these, and worse

I sometimes wonder if their isn't too much emphasis on the idea of total control in every encounter with law enforcement. I understand that officer safety is the likely motivation behind this, and I'm all for that. But it seems that in some of these engagements, had the police chosen to step back and attempted to isolate the situation and clear away bystanders, things may have played out differently.

As far as protecting the "innocent" bystanders, it seems that in many of these situations, the bystanders are further escalating and provoking events by running towards the trouble with cell phones held high, even taunting the police. Such stupidity doesn't merit protecting imo.

So in Cleveland, I'm more inclined to think that the police should back away and let the chips fall where they fall.

Get lots of surveillance up, restrict access to the events via. some well controlled pathways, and weed out those caught on camera as they attempt to leave.

That and have a clean up crew with lots of mops standing by.

Neither firearms carry laws, nor freedom of speech protections are in place to protect stupid people from the consequences of shooting their mouths off in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I see no reason why anyone should be the president of a patrolmen's association when they say something like, "I don't care if it's constitutional or not at this point."

Emotions can run high, but that is just absolutely off the wall.

Strange times, indeed.

That is a great plan that will never play out because, as you noted, gov't always wants to feel that it is in control.

This week will either be the best or worst for OC exposure.
The media can't help itself from covering every aspect of this story so if the citizens behave themselves with guns in full view it will be the best publicity money could buy but if all hell breaks loose you can count on them spinning it as anti gun.

Actually Loomis is noted for his emotions and emotional outbreaks, nothing new there.

Well day one is winding down and I have yet to see or read about a single case of open carrying. People need to get a clue. This open carry nonsense was intentionally hyped by the local media with a focus on the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper. Not happening and not likely to happen.

Ron

^ you must not be watching Fox then, guys with rifles(bolt action) trump supporters have been shown twice now.
I stand corrected. I caught the interview with one guy carrying a bolt action scoped hunting rifle. Nice rifle, looked like a laminated stock. Soon as I put the news on my wife Kathy told me she caught it earlier. The bikers were pretty cool and a nice bunch. :) Anyway, yes, I stand corrected and thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I don't know what you guys are watching but everything I've seen while eating dinner is saying the convention is getting ready to kick off shortly, not "winding down".

The VA State Police had some "group" pulled over on I95 earlier that they stated was related to the convention, IDK.

I hope all goes well but I do not think that will be the reality.
