Odd 1848 Baby Dragoon imported by Taylors

Hi

I am looking at a nice Baby Dragoon for sale on Auction Arms. It is an early model imported Taylors & Co. It is old because the directions in the picture look to be made with a typewriter. Another odd thing that caught my attention is the cylinder lock holes are oval like a Walker. I have never seen another Baby Dragoon like this. Could anyone tell me who made this gun? Baby Dragoons

On the original Colt Baby Dragoons the cylinder stops were first round, then oval, the rectangular. Another interesting fact is that the early Baby Dragoons had a shorter frame than on the later production revolvers. The replica manufacturers produced interesting variations of these differences. Uberti made Baby Dragoons have oval cylinder stops and a longer frame. Measured from the face of the flash guard to the front of the frame where barrel attaches, it is 1 5/8". The Armi San Marco made Baby Dragoons measure 1 1/2" and have rectangular cylinder stops. This is just the opposite of the original Colts. Uberti and ASM are the only manufacturers of the Baby Dragoon that I am aware of. If there are others I would apprciated the input.
Colt 2nd & 3rd Generation Baby Dragoons have the long frame probably because their frames were obtained from Uberti.

If my eyes still work that appears to be a Uberti. Maybe "left in the white," or the bluing/color casehardening has severely worn .... maybe stainless steel if Uberti made the model in SS.

I agree with Tommygunn, in the third photo down between the 31 and black is what appears to be the Uberti trademark.

If you look at the third photo down you can see a Uberti trade mark on the bottom side of the barrel. It also appears to be identical to my 2004 Uberti made 49'er, other than finish. The smooth cylinder is different.

Plain cardboard box with plain paper label, no date code or proof marks on the frame, barrel or cylinder. Only markings are SN on frame & Caliber & BP only markings under the barrel with what may be a Uberti logo. Kit gun?

I agree with the Uberti logo, I vote for stainless. Very cool pocket revolver. I have a Uberti 1849 but it has engraved cylinder and rectangular cylinder stops.

I think so. I have stripped my 49'er to defarb and when ready for re-blue the steel looks like stainless. It's been on the bench here for several months and no rust. In fact I have several pieces of Italian steel in the raw that have been on the bench for months and not a speck of rust.

This Ethan Allen has been in the raw for the past eight months or better, part of that time in my unheated shop, no rust.
