A couple of notes:

Smith himself told me that S-M stood for Smith-Manson.

The term "free" in "free pistol" has nothing to do with the cost; it means the pistol is "free" of most of the rules and restrictions governing other target pistols.

Oyeboten, many of the surviving Reisings suffered from owners feeding them modern HV ammo, which they were not built for. Many of them have nearly invisible cracks around the breech of the chamber.

I used to own one but got rid of it because it's semi and I'm trying to stick with .22rf single-shots only.

Jim Keenan, I wasn't there so I can only go by what other, earlier researchers have said about the S-M. One writer said he got his info directly from Manson. So, quien sabe?
