Where's that brown truck !?!?!?

The three toys I bought arrive today ! As well as a new bow I ordered ! Who's hidin' that brown truck ? :uhoh:

Otay...

I see how we're gonna play. Where's my camo paint... time to go gun rustler huntin' !! I got my stealthy longbow far enough along to be putin' some "arras" through it now. You can run... :neener:

Brown Truck man brought me boxes !!

Good news and bad news though. The bad news is... the 1858 Bison is backordered, and the Martin Jaguar take-down bow needed to go back. It managed to leave the factory before it was completed... but, they were great about it and promise to take care of it ASAP for me.

The good news is the Hawken rifle and the William Parker pistol arrived and are just fine !! I hadn't realized it, but the pistol is a polished stainless, instead of blued. Kinda surprised me, but, I like it !

Not sure when range day will be... although... I've bought 7 BP's now... and haven't popped a cap on any of 'em with a load in 'em. I've only popped two caps on the first two prior to loading them up when I went hunting last fall... my T/C Cherokee .45 carbine and my T/C Patriot .45 pistol. Since then, I've added a T/C Renegade .54 and a T/C Hawken .50 that haven't been shot either. I've been really busy with my archery thing as of late. :neener:

.50 cal that can't be serialized????? Oh Noooooo!

but seriously, a range report would probably cause more people to get busted at work or miss dinner than any other thread.

Nice looking pieces you have there Ratdog68. Are you sure the pistol barrel is really stainless and not just finished "in the white"?

You've just gotta get out and exercise your stable of frontstuffers.:D

WOW! Those sure do look sweet. And set triggers on both! We expect great things from you now that equipment isn't an excuse... :D

A magnet held to the barrel should tell you pretty quick if it's stainless or just finished in white.

You likely already know this but SOME stainless alloys are still magnetic but they are not as magnetic as gen-yew-ine steel. So compare the snap of the magnet to the blued barrel on the Hawken. A noticably lesser attraction likely means that the Parker is stainless rather than white finished steel.

If it is regular steel I'm not sure what I'd do.

Send it out for a nice browning treatment? Nothing says "CLASSY" like a nice browned barrel.

And yes, you have a moral obligation to allow us to live vicariously through you with a range report at your earliest opportunity. Chop-chop there dude.... :D

It's NOT "Stainless"...

It IS polished steel ! The magnet sticks to it very well. Yup... gonna have to keep after with with the polish and wax. Uhhh... sorry... I'm not a fan of "browned". I'd have it blued before I'd go brown. I'm gonna stick with the treatment it came with though.

I JUST noticed something about this Wm. Parker pistol !!!! It AIN'T got no ram rod !! Wassup wit' 'dat ?!?! LOL

Thanks all... appreciate the comments on the frontloaders and my bow. Yup... I do need to get to the range and dirty these ol' girls up a bit !

Rat Dog nice bow ! after talking to kegin in 07 he encouraged me to build my own hickory self bow. Its as nice as they come and will that baby hunt

Thanks...

Post up a pic of your bow, I'd enjoy seeing it.

Kegan had a bitter/sweet day today. Some of the guys (I was too late joining the forum to participate) did a bow swap. They made a bow and sent it off to another member. Sort of like the ladies' "Secret Pals" thing. Great idea. Anywho... Kegan got his bow in the mail today, really nice too. And... he asked a little too much from a "Red Oak Board" bow he's making... it did ugly things when he went to brace it up. It cracked at the riser. I think he was shooting for at least 70 lbs. of bow with that one. :banghead:

Oil it or wax it but you can't do both. Oil eats wax and melts it away.

I'd probably just oil it with something you know is going to protect the steel but still be nice to the wood. Not sure what to get that is kind to both without turning rancid after a while. And while I'm hardly the expert on this sort of stuff I'd say the last thing to touch the steel before it goes to bed between shooting sessions should be the lightly oily rag with no skin contact following the wipe down. Fourtunetly the wood is a lot more tolerant of touching.

This is a very good point though. Is there an oil that is wood friendly but will also keep the steel from oxidizing? I do a lot of metal working as well as wood working and I can't think of anything that will work on one without looking like blazes on the other.

Eezox has the reputation of being a very special product. Wipe it on, then let it dry and it prevents rust like nothing else. It creates a barrier that moisture doesn't penetrate. And it's compatible with black powder and wood.

EEZOX® weighs 10.42 pounds per gallon - squirt or spray EEZOX® into a container of water and it will sink to the bottom. This density prevents water from penetrating the thin layer of EEZOX® and from reacting with the metal to form rust. Because of the hydrocarbon oil content of other products, they will "float" on water. Therefore, water penetrates this oil layer and rests on the metal surface. The water then reacts with oxygen and the metal surface to form rust.

Our research clearly shows over 75% of gun owners are not satisfied with gun care products presently being used. Compare this to the 98.7% of EEZOX® users who are greatly satisfied.

Thankee yer Voodooness...

You're right... the smoke machine does need to fire up and waft through the range.

BTW:
My local Gander Mountain has Traditions "Pietta" NMA's in SS w/ adjustable sights, just wish I wasn't on a diet right now with moma watching the books.

I also can't wait for my Zona T/D Recurve to be finished & in my hands.

What loads are you planing to try in your new toys?

My condolences on the "diet"...

A new toy is always a much needed facet to a man's life.

I hear ya on the Zona bow... I'm further down the list than you are... I know they're gonna be too sweet ! Didja see on the classifieds that one of the members is having to sell his Zona already? It was just finished in January.

I haven't dug too deep into the manual yet, but I'm gonna start with their recommendations of the most accurate load and tinker from there... if I recall correctly, I've got 777 for powder, so, I'll most likely have to tone the load down a little bit for 'em.

He he, told my wife last week that I was seriously thinking of selling my Trykon since I haven't shot it since February 12th. & use the funds to finance a new toy for my self, like a nice Long Bow or maybe one of those NMA's.

TRADING the money from one toy to another should be allowed. After all it's already commited to grins and giggles. And it's it's pretty tough to get any G&G's from a new sofa or new roof or a new garden tool, or a.........
