are you concerned the govt will come and take your car away?

Cars can't be used to overthrow the government. I don't believe in registering your car either, but that's a whole different topic :D

is it that you don't want gov't having record of your arms in the event they wanted you to surrender them?
"Middle ground?"

The term "middle ground" carries with it connotations of finding a point of commonality between two EXTREME viewpoints. I respectfully submit that we do not have two extreme viewpoints in the gun control discussion. We have one position, which is supported by the Constitution of the United States, that says the right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed." That is the foundation of this country's legal system, the bedrock document on which the nation was built. Do you wish to portray that as "extreme"?

On the other side, we have those who wish to do what the Constitution says the government may not do -- infringe the right of "the People" to keep and bear arms. THAT to me is extremism. But there is no "middle ground" (IMHO) to be found between one position which says "just play by the rules," and the other side that says "But we don't like the rules so we don't think we should have to play by them."

Hawkmoon, your a little late, these guys already got me convinced on that one.

point taken, registration , in the end , does little to nothing, and maeks it easier for govt confiscation.

I believe that if a crime is going to be committed its going to be done with or without the use of a gun. Just because a criminal does not have a gun does not mean he wont pretend that he has a gun to hold up a store.
None the less, there are some if not most felons who are felons from something they did when they were young and foolish. Most felonies are not even gun related or even violence related. I myself was convicted of a non violent paper crime felony when i was 17 and now at 34 after going through a rather lengthy and tedious process of having the felony charge from over 10 years ago expunged, I am finally able to hunt. I have been hunting for over 3 years now and have not shot anyone nor used my gun in any type of criminal activity. It is indeed easier for a criminal to get their hands on a gun if they are really looking to use one than it is for a common citizen, even one who has not had a felony charge in the past. I think its a waste of time and is merely camoflaging the real reason they want everyone to go through this process. If you ask me, I think they want to know who's house to go to when Bin Laden has stolen all of THEIR guns. :D
My point is, a gun is going to be obtainable by a criminal whether there is gun control or not, the only one gun control is hindering is the common citizen who's background is clean, because someone who has been convicted of a felony who is a threat to commit a crime with a gun is getting it in the back alleys quicker than you can even walk into a Gander Mountain and find the gun department.

What will be the next transgression to warrant a lifetime ban? Having your name on the federal "no fly" list? Your name on the FBI's "terrorism watch list"?

Too many speeding tickets, then too many parking tickets, then less than an A- average in high school, then...
