Pick your 5 guns based on the following criteria (one gun per category). I know some have 2 each but play along. Feel free to tell why you choose the one you did.

1) Plinking/Fun
2) Utility/Woods
3) Home Defense
4) Conceal Carry
5) One you can't live with out

Feel free to go with just handguns or handguns and longguns. Since this is a handgun forum i am sticking to that, but its your choice.

Ok I will go first

1) Plinking/Fun. Ruger MKIII. Built to last for my grandkids. Good price. Accurate shot. Cheap Ammo

2) Utility/Woods. Ruger Blackhawk .357/9mm. Able to shoot 3 types of ammo. Built to last for my grandkids. Good Price. accurate shot.

3) Home Defense/End of The World. Ruger p95. Built like a tank. Shoots anything I feed it. High capacity mags. poplar ammo. Good Price

4) Conceal Carry. Ruger SP101 Ok this is the only category I don't already own. i want a .357 snub nose revolver. I ask suggestions on this board and it seems like the way to go.

5) One I can't live without Ruger Single Six. Mainly because it was my first gun. but it is a blast to shoot and I look forward to passing it to my son.

Your Turn:):cool::):cool:

1...22 target.... be it a ruger mk series, or a buckmark or a smith 41..
2...Marlin 45-70 Guide gun, there is no animal I could encounter that it cannot take down inside of 150-200 yds.
3...(Home defense) likely a 12 ga pump of some sort... an 870 fits nicely... (end of the world) I want more range/less weight so an AR fits that....it i had to choose one of the two.. the AR has greater versatility in a defensive role.
4...CC, Steyr M9-A1 or CZ P-O7. Others may insert Glock 19 here.
5...Full sized 357 revolver... Smith 686 or Ruger GP-100... slight nod to the Ruger for "ruggedness."

All of my answers are stuff I'd LIKE to get.

1) Plinking/Fun: Smith and wesson 317 or 617
2) Utility/Woods: Sp101 3 inch 357 mag OR 4 inch GP100
3) Home Defense/End of the world: AR-15, because I'm used to it.
4) Conceal Carry: Man this is tough, one gun for conceal carry. If I can only have one then I'll take a smith and wesson 638/642/442.
5) One you can't live with out: Gotta have a pump 12 guage. With multiple barrels. 870 or 500, it really doesn't matter.

....

1. Nylon .22
2. Dan Wesson 8 inch/357
3. AK SBR in 7.62x39
4. LCR
5. 870

If reality had anything to do with choices ....

Keltec Carbine & Glock
and all the ammo i can carry.

1) Plinking/Fun-Ruger 10/22 w/ red dot scope
2) Utility/Woods-Remington 970 w/ 28 inch barrel
3) Home Defense/End of the world-Mossberg 500 for HD if the world is normal.
4) Conceal Carry-SA 1911
5) One you can't live with out-AK47

That part might get your thread locked. Just sayin'.

Has this thread has been moved? This is General Discussion, not handguns!

Anyway ... I'm more of a long-gun guy

3) Home Defense/End of the world - Mossberg 500
4) Conceal Carry - Ruger SR9c

1) Plinking/Fun - Springfield XDM .40 3.8"
2) Utility/Woods - Springfield XDM .40 3.8"
3) Home Defense/End of the world - Springfield XDM .40 3.8"
4) Conceal Carry - Springfield XDM .40 3.8"
5) One you can't live with out - Springfield XDM .40 3.8"

Mainly because it's my first gun, and I haven't bought my second yet.

1) Plinking/Fun - Ruger Mark II Target (stainless, bull barrel) - Cheap to shoot, fun to shoot, accurate, I just love this pistol!
2) Utility/Woods - Ruger Security Six - The ability to shoot .357, .38, or .38 +p. Rugged and simple design. Just a hard working gun that will never fail on you. Built to last multiple lifetimes.
3a) Home Defense - Benelli Supernova Tactical - High quality, reliable, can shoot any 12 ga shell out there accurately. The shell stop button allows you to switch to a non-lethal shell on the fly.
3b) End of the world - vz58 - just an incredible assault rifle. Accurate, rugged, chambered in a plentiful proven round
4) Conceal Carry - CZ82 - mid sized (which I prefer), 12+1, all steel, polygonal barrel, I am dead nuts accurate with it.
5) One you can't live with out - Winchester Model 1892 (circa 1893) - While I'm still breathing I will never part with it!

1) Plinking/Fun = Ruger Mini-14:D
2) Utility/Woods = Marlin 30-30
3) Home Defense/End of the world = Mini-14:D
4) Conceal Carry= SA XD 9mm subcompact
5) One you can't live with out = Mini-14:D

Plinking- Marlin 918T cheap accurate versatile
Woods- Marlin 30-30 cheap and can get ammo at wally world
CCW- baby glock insert manufacture of choice. Lots of good options.
SHTF- Siaga 12 I don't think you could pack anymore firepower into something portable
Other- rem 870 very versatile platform

1) Plinking/Fun

Mossberg 702 Plinkster. For $100 bucks new it can't be beat, and semi-auto .22s are tons of fun.

2) Utility/Woods

Winchester 94 30-30. Lightweight, good capacity, common ammo, accurate and powerful enough for any game in the woods around here.

3) Home Defense

Mossberg 500

4) Conceal Carry

I was going to say my Springer 1911 Champion, my usual carry piece, but on second thought, I'd go with Kel-tec P3AT. The gun in your pocket beats the gun on the nightstand, and the Keltec goes with me everywhere, even when I'm carrying a larger gun.

5) One you can't live with out

All of them :D

1) Plinking/Fun: Ruger MKIII
2) Utility/Woods: Remington 870/Marlin 336
3) Home Defense: AR-15 in 5.56 (Bravo Company or KAC SR15)
4) Conceal Carry: Glock 19
5) One you can't live with out: An over-built stainless revolver (Ruger GP100, Redhawk or SP101)

1) Plinking/Fun-Ruger 10/22

2) Utility/Woods-Ruger Blackhawk

3) Home Defense/End of the World-Colt Government .45

4) Conceal Carry-Ruger SR9c

5) One I Will Never Part With-Colt Combat Commander

Fun gun: Saiga 7.62x39 converted to AK configuration. I can get ammo pretty cheap, so it is a viable plinker, plus it has more practical/social applications than a .22
Utility/Woods: Large, Semiauto 30-06 or 308. Something like a FAL, M1 Garand, or M14. This would be my utility, capable of handling just about anything, can hunt with it if I have to, rifle.
Home Defence: Remington 870 twelve guage. 19 inch barrel. rifle sights. My very favorite gun.
Carry Gun: Full sized 1911a1. They've been going strong for almost 100 years now.
The gun I just have to have: This was a hard one, and I was really leaning towards a Saiga 12, but if I can only have one gun, regardless of practicality, its got to be the Thompson Submachine Gun!

Chris "the Kayak-Man" Johnson

1) Plinking/Fun: marlin model 60
2) Utility/Woods: 4lb Keltec sub 2000
3) Home Defense: Saiga 12
4) Conceal Carry: M&P9c
5) One you can't live with out: AR-15

1. a 22, Ruger 10/22 probably.
2. .357 revolver, SW or Ruger, probably a 4" barrel, but 6" would be okay.
3. 12 ga, since it's sort of a which list, a Bernelli M4
4. Full sized 1911.
5. The gun I couldn't live without would need to be a rifle with a little bit of range. Probably 7x62 in an AR variant.

OK. I'll play.

1) Plinking/Fun - Henry 22LR lever action rifle
2) Utility/Woods - Marlin 45-70 scout
3) Home Defense/EOTWAWKI - Beretta CX 4 Storm, .45ACP / Bushmaster BAR 10 (.308 Win)
4) Conceal Carry - two 1911s in .45ACP backed up with a laser sighted Ruger LCP
5) One you can't live with out - Mare's Leg lever action pistol in 44-40.

Ask me again tomorrow and the list may change. I'm old.

Woody

Here's the 5 I'm rolling to the range with today anyway;

1. Plinking/Fun, Walther P22
2. Utility/Woods, Savage 62F
3. Home Defense, Beretta 92FS
4. Conceal Carry, Walther PK380 (first time shooting today, so not sure on that yet).
5. Can't live without, Hi Point 995 Carbine

Actually, just going to the range. The rule for the day? Apparently, no wood.
