Okay, I think I am going to buy a 9mm

I am about to get a significant raise at work. My tradition is to take my first check with my new pay grade, and spend the amount of the raise on something that I would not normally buy myself.

I have had 9mm sidearms before, but I am really a .45 ACP guy, but lets face it, the 9mm is here to stay, and I might as well have one in the stable. I am not wanting it to CCW, but just to have and shoot. I have owned or have experience with Browning Hi-Powers, Glocks, Beretta 92's, H&K P7M13's, and S&W autos.

I am actually leaning toward a SIG P226, but am open to any suggestions. I know that no one here probably has an opinion on an accurate, reliable 9mm, but I am asking anyway!

SIG P226 is a great choice. I have a Springfield XD9 and I really like that. Depends on what kind of pistol you want. H&K USP is good, CZ75 is also nice. There are lots of great choices! First I would decide what kind of trigger pull you'd like, and whether you're interest in polymer-framed guns. Then go from there.

Buy CZ

You have a great excuse to buy CZ. You will love it! If it is no CCW buy CZ75SA - wonderful range gun.

Another vote for the P226. I have an XD9Tac, CZ75BSA, P225, and 9mm 1911. The P226 has shot the best for me.

Sheesh. There are a lot of good 9mm platforms. It really boils down to which one fits your hand the best. I have/had the BHP, CZ 75B, CZ P-01, Glock 19, HK P7M8, Sig 226 ST, Sig 228, and even a Walther P-1 and a "Red 9" Broomhandle.

Of them all, my favorite is the CZ 75B. Trigger is kinda gritty and creepy at first, but it smooths out after use. Weird thing about CZ's: if CZ-USA decided to add $200 to these pistols' pricetags and market them as "uber-tactical," they'd fly off the shelves.

Yeah :) I love my nines. As far as accurate/reliable, it's hard to beat a Sig. Best DA trigger out there.

Nice thing about the Parabellum cartridge is that everyone's made a gun for it, and all the reputable makers have made true classics for it. Beretta, CZ, Sig, H&K, even those plastic Austrian thingies. There's no dearth of options. Get what fits your hand best, which is probably a Sig.

For something completely different, check out a P7 if you get a chance.

CZ 75/85, Sig 226 ST, or Browning HP.

Or, if money is no object, a Sig P210, HK P7, or SW Perf. Ctr. 952.

CZs are just as good as the others mentioned, but quite a bit more affordable.

I bought a used CZ75B for $300 and it's great. I've had Sigs, HPs, Berettas. The Beretta to me was the only one that compared to the CZ, and the price on the CZ was the closer.

If I had ONE 9mm, it would be a BHP. That always stuck me as the 9mm for folk who love 1911's.

You mentioned you had one? Why'd you dump it, if I may ask? :)

StrikeEagle

All of the models you cited are good ones, but a different take would be the 1911-style STI Trojan in 9mm. I recently had a chance to shoot one, and I really like it!

xd9. Mine's the most accurate I have owned/shot (these include several HP's, Sig pro, Walther p99, cz-75, a couple other sig's that I don't remember for sure which they were). I actually just purchased the sub compact model and am waiting for the coupon to arrive to pick it up (PRNY). Want to make sure my first one wasn't a fluke shooting as well as it does. btw, my cz-75 was the second most accurate 9 I have shot, and I sometimes wonder if it would have done better still with better sights--the stock ones are so-so.

I am a .45ACP guy, too, Bernie. My wife bought me a CZ75 Compact (PCR) in 9mm for Christmas and it is my new favorite handgun. It is sturdy, well-made, and astonishingly accurate. It came with 2 14-round magazines and has worked flawlessly with any ammo I cared to jam into it. All it needed was a holster and the Yaqui slide will do until the new IWB from Eric (@ HBE, check him out) arrives. I may not be a 9mm guy but I'm definitely a CZ guy!

I have a few 9mm pistols: 92 Centurion, 92fs inox, USP 9, USPc 9, P7M8, Glock 19, and a BHP. If I were in a recommending mood, I'd go w/ 92fs 1st & go from there. It was the pistol I had shot the most through & really learned to shoot well using...
Good luck on your quest!

Sig P226, Certified. Cant beat the refurbished Sig. They almost all come w/ glowing night sights... have been refinished. Nice. You cant go wrong w/ that.

I just got myself a brand new 9mm and I went with a GLOCK 17. The full size frame GLOCKs fit my hand like they were made for me. I am a revolver shoot so the trigger on the GLOCK suits me very well. That being said, I also like the S&W 910 which is a very nice gun for the money.

My wife's ex-cop S&W 5903 is a terrific gun. It shoots absolutely everything we've ever stuffed into it, and I tend to shoot it better than all of my guns.....well, for the most part. ;) As for other 9's, I'd also recommend a Glock 19, as I really like mine and it never has given me a problem (doesn't shoot as well as the wife's S&W, though). I would not recommend a Ruger of any type. They are just too big, bulky, and ugly....for the most part....but usually function flawlessly. I have a Ruger P89-DC that I shoot on occasion. My next "9" will probably be a 1911 format, as these are the guns I like to shoot the most, and 9mm ammo is about 1/2 the price of 45ACP.

If your raise is big enough, get a P7M8 before they're gone. My biggest seller's remorse is getting rid of my P7. :(

Vote for Glock here. I own a 17 and 26 both excellent guns. If you like crunchtickers get the sig its the best of the DA SA breed. Beretta 92's are fine as well. There are a lot of right choices here.
