I have a Damascus twist single barrel 12 bore that lives at my cabin as a wall hanger. It will only chamber 2 1/2" shells, so little worry about anybody stuffing live 12 ga ammo in it. It has Prussian proofs (not German) on barrel, lock and receiver block which places it older than 1871, exact age unknown. It wears pretty good furniture for a utilitarian piece, the proofs are for a government arm, and the barrel is rather short in the 20" range so it's use may have been police, military, gendarme. It has lived a hard life, but all parts in working order. Can find zero information on the piece. It looks as if it may have been converted from an early centerfire rifle action, but not sure. Looks like a Martini-henry and a rolling block had a baby that became a break action 12 bore. It gets occasional service with shortened brass 12 Ga black powder blanks for dog training or celebrating the 4th.
