I was just drinking a cup of tea and it dawned on me, I have posted that I am trying to figure out what 1911 to buy, I am pretty well set on the 45 acp although I do stock alot of 9mm. The 45 acp is with out question a defensive stopping round. Now here is my dumb question. If its such a good stopper then why is it not made in a semi auto long rifle, I know the Thompson Machine gun is one, but why no other applications? The uzzi spits out 9s but a AR platform goes to 223. It would be nice to have a long magazine that you could stick in either a rifle or pistol depending on your situation. Any one?

Hi Mick.... Marlin made a camp 45 carbine for one that was awesome! They accepted Colt Gov. Clips

I had a friend that used one to hunt Wild Boar using Black Talon Ammo.

I believe I posted on yesterdays post...and with your budget you could go all the way.. But IMO you should look at a Taurus and save some money for ammo and extras.

I shot one beside a Wilson combat , and I have stated I am not saying it is better than a Wilson... I still want a Wilson, but it grouped and performed as well as the Wilson and Im a working man....just the way it is and these are out of box satisfying.

Anyway the Camp 9 and Camp 45 from Marlin make perfect companions.. The camp 9 accepted S&W 59 series magazines...

And your budget would probably allow both it and a Taurus 1911!

There have Uzi carbines and Marlin Camp carbines in 45 ACP. There was also a D Max carbine in that chambering, but there weren't very many made and it wasn't the same D Max that made the Maxine revolver.

It seems like a new carbine would be a pretty good idea, since it seems like you could build one around the 45 Super loading, and owners could fall back on 45 ACP for cost, availability, and quiet. I bet the carbines would be pretty gentle shooters even in 45 Super, which would kick them up into bigger classes of game.

Hi-Point never made a 45 carbine, I don't think. I bet George Kelgren has at least thought of it, but he hasn't chambered his SUB 2000 for the 45. My guess, it's just not that easy to scale up a design to a bigger cartridge; then again I saw a photo of a gent test-firing the ONE Thompson made in 30-06!

Marlin doesn't make Camp carbines any more; I don't know anything about Uzis except they seem expensive (downright cheap compared to the Thompson, though).

Well, with the short .45 ACP case after about 10" of Bbl. there's hardly any velocity gain & with some loads in a 16.5" Bbl. it loses velocity.

Which makes my assertion that 45 Super would be great in a carbine barrel nothing more than speculation. I hope someone tries it though.
