Ongoing trouble with 30-30 sizing/decapping dies

I have used Lee lube and have found it to be an excellent lube. The only quality of it that I don't care for is that it is water soluble which if left in the die may lead to rusting so you should clean your dies thoroughly afterward if you use it. I have mostly Lee dies and I load for many calibers and find no issues with their dies. In fact my 30-30 die is Lee and I have no problems with it.

No. This involved two different sizing dies; one old and one brand new. The likelihood of both having a pin or spindle problem would be very long odds indeed.

That doesn't eliminate it as a possibility though. Removing it and trying to just size the case, without the expander/decapping pin does.

It also doesn't cost a penny and you already have everything you need to let us know what happens.

Some can.

The two dies are identically adjusted vis a vis the pin. I have other Lee dies in a variety of calibers from 38 to 45-70 and not a single problem with any of them.

Its worth noting that the 38 & 45-70 lee dies do not include the expander on the decapping pin and instead have one in the powder die.

This makes the pins height irrelevant, on the .30-30 its on the pin, if its not at the right height, one can try to size the case at the same time its being expanded and disaster occurs. Case damage is going to happen no matter what lube you use.

The expander MUST be inside the body as the neck is being sized.

Removing it, eliminates the chance it could be at the wrong height, locking things up.

Just a note on the case lube. I switched from the thick, sticky factory case lube years ago. Found it to be messy and expensive. Now I use synthetic motor oil such as Mobile 1. It is super slick, super thin and it only takes a tiny bit to lube the brass. I use a cotton bore "mop" in an RCBS handle to lube the inside of the neck. For neck sizing only I touch the lube pad and then turn the brass between my fingers to lube the outside of the neck.

This thread was not open for replies by the time I finished my lube test but all of these worked without damage to a 30-30 case. Including olive oil from the kitchen.

None of them could be run through the sizing/decapping die except by force sufficient to damage the case.
Sounds more like a mechanical issue.

If the OP is interested he can read the results here https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/case-lube-shootout.926776/ to keep from also having a can of one shot around collecting dust.
