My sister is attending this college and they have a strict no-cell phone policy, but students are allowed to bring along guns for recreation (they still won't allow CCW on campus, but may in the future). And believe it or not, the priest there is the one who manages the gun room, where the students' guns live. The college is in Lander, WY which is apparently very popular for hunting, and they have a range or two as well, from what I heard.

Hmm, cell phones are good for emergencies, with no CCW that makes this campus MORE dangerous, not less, as the attacker knows his victim not only won't have a self defense firearm, but can't call the police.

Yeah, I don't like the no cell phone policy much, but they did it because the college is in a natural surrounding, so they didn't want to ruin it. But I would bet you that many of the students carry anyway.... Oh, and the town's population is just over 6,000 anyway, just to sum up the small- town-ness of it all.

Well, it's definitely not my college, although I do wish that people would use cell phones less; I like talking face to face.

No guns allowed on my campus either. Cell phones are all over campus like white on rice. People git hit by cars regularly because they are texting while crossing the street. I have a no cell phone use policy in my classrooms and I kick students out class for texting. People may find that extreme, but it is disrespectful to sit there and text during class. Plus, if you can't go 50 minutes without texting someone, you may have a problem.

Now that makes sense, if you want an education, then by gosh get one, not the latest gossip. I agree, out the door with them, but they still can carry and use them in a non classroom setting.
Cells with CCW makes the most sense to me.

Well, putting cameras in cell phones turned out to be a great idea.

How about putting a camera and a cell phone in a gun? Seems like a natural technological evolution to me...

They would just have to make sure you couldn't mistake the muzzle for the earpiece...

I remember reading an article about a cell phone some guy put together in a plastic body that looked like a handgun. The ear piece was in the muzzle and to answer the phone, you pull the trigger.

FIVE, that sounds like the worst idea I ever heard of. At least the "Gunverter" Beretta based channel changer had an obvious keypad at the back of it.

Well he was a comedian so what do you expect? It wasn't a real gun either way, just a plastic shell that looked like one.

That's my kind of place, theology issues aside. I can't stand cell phones and if I could I'd use mine for target practice. It's a device designed to interrupt and annoy. If you need to signal for help, just shoot in the air three times like we did in the old days.

Seriously, when did cell phones become a required part of self defense? I do question the doctrine that we should be yammering on some little phone while trying to live or die in a shootout.

Personally I don't even have a cell phone, and it does annoy me when I am trying to have a conversation with someone and they pull out their phone.

That's more like it. Yes, that would be ideal no pun intended..

I just turn and walk away. And I've left people's houses when I thought we were having a conversation, and they picked up the TV remote and started flipping through channels.

Maybe I'm just boring and they were trying to signal I should leave...

Sadly, I think some of you guys are doing the same thing with cell phones that antis do with guns. They are both inanimate object capable of doing nothing on their own. It is the PEOPLE using them that are the problem. There is nothing wrong with firearms of used by responsible safe people. Equally, there is nothing wrong with cell phones if used by people with manners.

It wasent so long ago that high schools were allowed to have ranges... boy times have changed

Wow, I've lived my whole life in Wyoming and haven't heard of this place. Must be a small outfit.

I have to agree, no CCW + no cell phone = bad.

Cell phones have vastly increased the ability of people to summon help quickly.

Yeah, they (the college) are fairly new. I do hope that they will let students carry soon as well. Because they are so new, they are also very open to suggestions, so who knows? Perhaps they will get a request and grant it sometime in the future.

Good call, that'd be sweet.

I don't see how anyone could think this is a good idea, as in fact this is absolutely backwards and retarded!
Guns on campus, step in the right direction. Banning cell phones is a leap back into the dark ages of ignorance & utmost stupidity! How are victims going to call for help, report an accident, robbery or rape. If there is a school shooting, how is the student defending himself going to describe the description/location of the attackers? How will authorities even find out there was a shooting at all?

oh yeah, maybe we'll fire three shots into the air...:cuss:

Some of you need to open your eyes a bit and realize, yes, we're on a gun forum, but the answer to every question isn't GUNS.

They have it bass akwards! It sounds like a way to imply they are OK with guns, but in reality they are keeping a close hand on them, control as I see it.

in my admittedly brief time in wyoming, i didn't see much cell signal anyway. unless they've improved since the last time i looked at the coverage maps, i sure wouldn't go there expecting dial tone in an emergency
