Only have 4 rifles

At one time I thought it would be cool to have one of every representative size. I had a .204, multiple .22 center fires, a 6mm, .25-06, etc., etc. up through .45-70 and .45-90. Maybe 50-60 total.

I would take them out of the safes, clean and oil, then carefully stack them back. After a while I figured out that caring for and insuring that many guns that rarely or ever got used was not something I wanted to do any more. They went away and my life became simpler

I think 5 calibers would cover it. 1) 22, 2) 257 Robert’s, 3) 30/06, 4) 35 Whelen, 5) 470 NE from mouses to pachyderms. Rifles to the buyers preferences.

I could slim down To the following

300 Weatherby Mark 5

16” Daniel Defense 6.8 SPC

Savage Mark II in 22 LR

18” BCM 5.56

I‘d be good from squirrels through big bears, not that I do much hunting

Among my rifles, I could whittle down to these 4 and be happy:

1. A lightweight and handy .22LR Sporter with a 3-9x32 scope and leather sling, for small game, and positional (i.e., standing, seated & prone) 50 yard shooting at the range. Boy Scout stuff, and good basic skills builder.

2. A heavier precision .22LR with a bipod and bigger scope for longer range (100+ yards) rimfire shooting.

3. My AR15 Service Rifle. I don't currently shoot matches, but would like to again sometime. And it generally seems something in .223Rem is a good option to have.

4. My deer rifle - a custom FN SPR chambered in 7mm-08.

Lever action 22 shoots, shorts ,longs and LR
Lever action 30/30
Lever action 45/70
Lever action .500 S&W magnum

There is a theme here.

Certainly have more than four, even bought another this evening. But I could do quite nicely with four: Bolt 22LR with 3x9-ish scope; 5.56 AR; peep-sighted 336 30-30; M77 270. Could substitute in a 45/70 just to have a bigger hammer, and I might have bought the M77's replacement today (time will tell), and I could be talked into replacing the AR with an 1894 .357, but 4 working guns is enough for me.

.17 HMR through .58 percussion. Won't state number. Could hunt anything in US.
Wish I was thirty years younger with good knees.
Had a good ride.

I had your pain. Just got me 2 new knees last summer. Best thing I ever did for myself. Still getting used to them but for the first time in years I am pain free. Even did some still hunting again this past season.
