Well, I just added a third 1911. I'd been using my Taurus PT1911 as my daily carry piece since I got it. After I managed to break it, (hot cor-bons with stock rcoil spring doesn't make a happy gun. broke a leg off the ejector, and did something to the lock in the hammer, causing it not to release) my hip was getting lonely. I decided to carry my old nickle plated colt, instead. Just to familiarize myself with the gun, a little, I tried about a half doezen practice draws. I dropped the gun, four out of six times. That nickle is slippery! So, when I spotted a (never) used Springfield Defender, for $400, I decided that I had to have it. It seems like a nice mix between the GI spec'd Colt, and all the doodads and geegaws on the Taurus. Only question now, when the Taurus gets back, which do I carry?

Take that Taurus and get the ejector replaced with an Ed Brown and then toss out all the lockwork and replace it with a C&S Tactical II kit.

You can thank me later.

I can't say that the thought hadn't occured to me, but the gun shot great the way it was. Also, I'm curious as to how well the thing's going to hold up. That's why I'm keeping a detailed round count journal, along with failures. 1867 rds, and this little snafu was the first entry in the failure column. I find that to be fairly impressive, particularly when I think that my mistake in running the corbon stuff through without swapping springs is responsible for the failure, rather than the gun itself.

Edit: I managed to hijack my own thread. This wasn't supposed to be about the taurus, but the new springer.

Ditto. It is a reasonably priced serious upgrade. You won't be sorry.

Don't get the super duper target setup, get the "Tactical" which is designed for carry.

Good stuff.:)

More stuff from EGW.

As far as the ejector, Ed Brown or Cylinder & Slide will work very well. It is more difficult to install than the tactical kit, but not to bad. You will have to cut the "notch" for the roll pin in the right spot, contour the rear to match your gun, maybe "tune" it a bit, and and possibly take some off the edges to fit your slide.:)

NOW: How about that Springer?:)

I looked up SA's website. They don't appear to list the "Defender Model." But, from the descriptions of models they do list, it appears to be an old name for what is currently termed the "Mil-Spec." Aside from a severely spongey trigger, I really like it. Just enough doodads to make it easily shootable, not enough to really clutter it up.

Shave my head? nope. I might consider trading in the Bo Duke look, if someone makes the right offer, say a les baer.
