I saw one in person today in the local shop and I think I am in love. I have heard of some reliability problems with it. Anyone have any experience with this pistol? How do you like the gutter sight?

I had a Kimber RCP alot like the new agent. I really liked it, I also looked at a new agent last weekend, I think that they are pretty nice..

    Reliability problems?

That's the first time I've seen any reference, even a second hand or hearsay reference like yours, to reliability problems with Colt New Agents.

That is, unless their total reliability are causing problems for the long time Colt degraders or to the crowd who insist that reliability is lost when the barrel length falls below 4 1/4".

In my experience and that of every other owner of the gun I've seen who cares to comment the pistol is remarkable for one thing above all of it's other interesting characteristics and that is it's amazing reliability.

My own has now been fired more than 2000 rounds with nary a FTF, FTE, or other stoppage or problem whatsoever. It just shoots, and with crimson trace it shoots to point of aim over and over and over again.

Yep, all I have read has been positive on reliability.

I've got one, and even though it's only got 300+ rounds through it, it's been 100% reliable. No break in period necessary and it's turning into my EDC. Great pistol.

Kimber Ultras are well known on the internet as being problematic, especially when new. Before I bought the NA, I probably went though 60-80 pages of various forum postings reading comments on it. I found two posts from people that had some sort of problem.

In a similar size pistol, I originally bought my wife a used Springfield EMP and had lots of FTEverythings with it, even after a trip back to Springfield, and ended up swapping it for a Para PDA. I had to put hundreds of rounds through the Para before it became reliable. The New Agent was reliable from round #1. It hasn't cared how I grip it and likes whatever I feed it. It's a really fun pistol to shoot.

I will say that with 200gr +P in it, it's pretty stout though. ;)

I have no hard proof of it being unreliable. I was cruising several forums a while back and some guy was ranting about how he has sent his back to Colt 3 times. I am not bashing Colt. I know there are a lot of factors that effect a gun's reliability (ammo, shooting tech., cleanliness and care given to the gun). I have never owned one. Just looking for your opinion on the pistol.

How do you like the gutter sight? I have seen some replacement grips with a lazer for night use. Anyone have one? How does it compare with the slimness of the factory grips?

I've put 700+ rounds through my New Agent and have had ZERO failures. It serves as my carry weapon when I absolutely have to tuck my shirt in. I also carry it at other times just because I want to. I have made no changes to it.

I'm waiting for mine, and can hardly wait. I've borrowed a friend's and I found it to be top-notch in reliability. The negative points I've picked up from the forum deals with the gutter sights...However, I think they miss the point of it's purpose: self-defense and close-range. I barely use sights under 15 feet, so it fits my needs when I CC.... I believe "bullseye" shooters just can't seem to do w/o sights at any distance, IMHO!:)
XavierBreath: Nice report below....I can hardly wait for mine...

I have had 100% reliability straight out of the box with my Colt New Agent. I did lubricate it prior to shooting, but nothing else.

I have over 1500 rounds through it now and am looking at replacing the recoil assembly, something that is recommended on any three inch 1911 with a captured recoil assembly.

    Here is a range report.
