I am thinking of working a trade for a Sig 225, and being that I have never shot one, I would like to hear some opinions and/or personal experiences with them.

It is my understanding that the 225 is very similar to the 228, is this correct??

Greeting's 4Truck-

SIG-Sauer's P225-P226-and P228 are noted by many
as some of the worlds finest self-loader's; second to
none!:D Excluding the P226, cuz its a full-size weapon
available in other caliber's; the P225 and the P228 are
both excellent personal protection weapons. The P225
is the slim design, single stack 9m/m known for it's
exceptional reliability and accuracy; and the same can
be said for its brother, the double-stack 9m/m P228.
Both guns are examples of craftsmanship at its finest,
and would serve the user for many decades to come.
When I carry a 9m/m, its my West German made and
assembled SIG-Sauer P228; otherwise I carry its big
brother a West German SIG-Sauer .45 caliber P220!:uhoh:

Comfortable grip

I have 2 Sigs (P226, P229) and have handled a P225, although I did not shoot it. I think the P225 has one of the most comfortable handgun grips I have touched, and I am sure the accuracy and trigger are up to the same high standard as other Sigs. If you want a fairly slim 9mm single stack for carry, the P225 is a good choice. It is about the same size as Sig's P239, but the grip fills the hand better, if you have average to large hands.

My Sig P225 is the most accurate 9 mm handgun I have ever fired, and I have fired most of the major, high quality examples of this genre. I attribute its excellent accuracy to the quality of workmanship and the way it fits my hand like it grew there. This gun is so excellent that I am having difficulty deciding what to buy next because I cannot imaging liking a pistol as well as I do this one. I am intrigued by an HK P7, however, and I want an SW1911. Most likely, my next Sig will be a P228. My P225 has functioned flawlessly for almost 400 rounds since I bought it new last December.

The 225 is a wonderful pistol. It is nearly the same size as the 228, but has a slimmer grip as mentioned. Some feel the 225 is the most comfortable SIG in the hand. It is noticeable larger than the 239. For CCW the 239 may be a better choice.

The mag bases like the older style 220 and 226 have a metal lip on it. If you have large hands, it may prove uncomfortable after a while, as it will pinch the flesh along your hypothenar musculature. Some folks at SIGforum have modified the bases by either filing off the lip or bending them.

There are also a few 225 police surplus pistols in the US that have a heel release mag.

Tough to find a new one. The 239 killed it, which I think is a pitty. I have this thing against buy used Al frame pistols.

4Truck, I have a 229 in .40 and a 225. The 225 has a narrower grip allowing me to really wrap the fingers of my supporting hand around my dominant hand to provide more control. The 229's (228 should have the same grip) grip is wider and it is harder for me to get a good grip on my dominant hand. When my hands are sweaty, sometimes they separate under recoil.
I think that the 225 is the most comfortable in the hand pistol that I have ever shot. I am going to try and get another one at the next show.

I've only held & seen one 225. Seemed like a nice pistol. If it weren't for the fact that I really like my P7M8, the 225 might be the pistol that filled my single stack 9mm niche ;)

I like mine

I have a pair that I use for carry (one at a time) and I think they are about the best pistols out there. The H&K P7 has a legendary rep, but the prices are ridiculous. You could own a pair of 225s and a dozen mags for less than one P7... I should know, I do. :D

I have always thought the P225 was the perfect sized pistol for the 9mm cartridge, which I have to admit I am not a huge fan of.
But that's what makes horse races.;)
Mine got sent to Tripp to have all the steel parts and the mags hard chromed. And then it got a set of Nill grips and conrasting color Trijicons...

I have had a good mix of guns and out of box feel, I liked the 225 best of the sig line. Don't think you would be disapointed.

I agree that the SIG P225 is probably the best classic P-series SIG in the lineup. I've had two, and I'll have another one in the future.

I carry a P 225 as a duty weapon and I have complete trust in it. It is compact, dead accurate, has great ergonomics (for me) and feels natural in my hands.

I have to admit though that the P 225 was the first gun I ever trained with, so I got kinda spoiled from the start... I'll always be addicted to SIGs (I just can't deny my heritage :)

I bought a used(1982) p-225 and I,ve been very happy with it. It is very accurate and fits my hand very well. I plan on sinking some cash into this baby! ( N.S. and a nice refinishing.)

I like my P225 very much. It's wonderfully accurate. It is a bit large for a single-stack 9x19. Overall, I think I prefer the S&W 3913 over the P225, but not by much.

Well,
I picked up the 225 today and immediately took it to the private range and put 400 rounds through it. I am extremely pleased, I have never been a big 9mm fan but this gun is certainly making me one. This is my first Sig and I am now officialy addicted.

So thanks for all of the responses, and if anyone in NOVA ever wants to shoot one, just let me know.

B27, if you don't mind me asking, what did the two tone finish cost? I am looking towards Robar, but I have no idea what that type of work costs...

Glad it worked out for you.:)

Blasphemy I know, but I just don't like the P225. I prefer the chubbier P228 and P226.;)

I like my 225 a lot. Points well, easy to shoot accurately. Just seems to be hidden in the dark most of the time, which is a shame. Low price is a plus too.
