WOW! You're gonna see alot of diff't opinions. Personally, I really like my Colt XSE, USP 45 & the USP Expert 45 :D

What makes the Springfield Loaded, loaded?

I see the Beavertail, the trigger hammer and ambi thumb safety, but is there any thing else in the basic loaded models? Flared ejection port? match barrel? What is in the "Loaded" package.
I looked at Springfield's site but couldn't find what all you get, so I'm asking here.
Thanks

lol Johnny really frowns upon these "what do you like" threads.

I'm actually only 9mm across the board currently, but my next purchase will be my first .45acp: Glock 36. The irony that the slimmest glock (the only glock single stack period) happens to be their fattest bullet is so appealing to me. And I'm just bouncing off some Kahr 9mm buyer's remorse (and it's not even in my HANDS yet  but it's arrived, accoring to tracking number lol), I need some Glock .45acp action. Probably can't go wrong with the XD45's, now that they have a glock-like finish (if you like how they're set up).

Rugers and Taurus are good cost conscious options; p90 I'd say only if you're not going to carry it. Out of the two (not based on .45 models particularly) I'd go with Ruger.

HK is great of cour$e.

May not be the best but the Ruger P97 works for me. Fairly light, more accurate than I can shoot and conceals pretty well. To tell the truth though, I could probably live quite happily with just about any of the .45s mentioned in this post so far

Well, here's one thing...

...that the experts can agree on. :D

The Sig P220 is my favorite .45 of all time. Mine won't win any beauty contests, nor any photography awards - but it's a reliable work-horse of a gun, and an accurate one at that.

p220a2pl9.jpg

Usually I don't bother to brag about a gun's accuracy, since most shooters aren't good enough shots to really get anything out of a match-grade pistol in the first place.... But long before I was able to shoot as well as I do now, I could hold 2.5 to 3" groups @ 10 yards with my P220.

There aren't very many auto's produced in the 70's that are as popular today as the Sig P220.

Edited to add:

FWIW, even with all my Sig biases, I'm still very heavily considering a G30 for myself, specifically for carry. Glocks are fine weapons, and the more I shoot them, the more I like them. Should you choose to buy one, I'm sure you'll be very satisfied with it. As has already been posted - go with what feels best for you. Good luck!

When I was a youngster the 1911 was about it... we called them .45 auto's. Everybody knew whatcha meant. Selection was... simple. Colt. Or old Mil-surp (usually Remington Rand) war horse types.
Things have gotten a bit more complex nowadays. I've got 6 or 7 (maybe 8) 1911's in 3", 4", 4.25" and 5" barrel lengths and i do enjoy shooting them.

But I wanted to try out something different, so I bought a Glock 21. WOW! Then a Glock 30. WOW and smaller to boot. Same trigger pull each time, recoil is minimal (more of a puuuush), accurate. Thick tho'. Kinda homely too.

Bought a Taurus PT-945 when they first came out. Pretty good, but not a WOWser. Dependable and accurate, just no snap crackle and pop ifyaknowwhatImean. I liked the C&L option and never shot it DA/SA. (Why bother?)

When S&W came out with their econo model 457 I bought one of those as well. Sweet. A sleeper. No cocked and locked, had to learn the DA/SA trigger thing, small enough, light, very accurate. Dependable.

I lust after a CZ-97. I'd like to try out a Taurus new PT-145 Mil-Pro and the 24/7. Heck, I'd like to try the Croatian wonder and see if it's worthy of all the buzz it generated when it came to life. An HK in .45 would be nice to have as well.

So many .45's. So little money (and time). sigh

Till then, I'll continue to carry a Commander length 1911, which, for me, is the perfect semi-auto in the right cartridge. Probably one made by... Colt. (Old timers... whaddyagonnado?)

As for my opinion... Who cares? You picked the right round. Now find something to launch it. That's part of the fun. Almost as much fun as the shooting part. Maybe. But ALWAYS buy quality magazines, no matter whatcha get.

Glock 30

That's my choice. It's my daily carry. It dissapears in an IW holster under a polo or t-shirt. When I decided to switch from 9MM to .45 ACP for my CCW, I rented several including the Taurus PT 145 and G 30. The G 30 was more accurate, and recoiled less for me. Quicker follow-up shots. If you put them together, there isn't really much difference in size. Go with you first instinct, if you shoot it well. I don't think there is anything more reliable in the long term than Glocks.

Go with the Glock 30. The Sig P220 is a fine firearm, but too big for concealed carry for most people if you ask me. And I cannot scientifically describe why, but the Glock 30 is the most accurate Glock I have ever owned (I've had two glock 27s, a glock 23, glock 19, two glock 17s, glock 34, glock 35, a glock 21, and two glock 30s). I no longer have any of them, unfortunately (the glock 21 and a glock 17 due to theft and the rest I sold because I am a gun slut).

The Glock 30 is stout enough I get such a positive grip its amazing, the thick walls of the grip fit my hands perfectly, and the short slide is weighted perfectly to make muzzle flip almost nonexistant. I can outshoot any of the other glocks, including the full sized glock 21, with a glock 30. They conceal very well, despite their stockiness, and are reliable as sin.

The rugers and 1911s mentioned are great, but many are too big for concealed carry compared to the 30. If the Glock 30 is too wide for you, my personal preference would be a commander-sized 1911. Any 1911, though, is so thin they conceal well. But I honestly think you'll be happy with a Glock 30.

I carry a Kimber 1911 Gold Match now, but I wouldn't mind having something I can abuse and carry comfortably when grocery shopping... another Glock 30 for ol' Murdock, perhaps?

I had two Glock 30s and my heart flutters just remembering them... I want another one, now. Thanks, ya bastard! ;)

TRL

You can buy 2 Taurus PT-145s and some ammo for what most Glocks cost, and you'd have a better pistol, in my opinion...

Yup - buy two Taurus' and one of them just might be worth keeping. Or not...

Colt, Kimber or S&W 1911. Then you'll be hooked. A good 1911 will do everything you want to do with a handgun. It suffices for speed shooting as well as most compacts; it suffices for long range (25+ yards) as well as most target pistols. They are flat and easy to carry for CCW. They are comfortable to shoot and have good ergonomics. They are the best multiple purpose pistol out there. If you get something else, you'll always wonder "Should I have gotten the 1911?" and you'll eventually end up getting one anyway. Save yourself the time and money and just get it up front.

How much were you planning on spending??

If, "alot" is your answer, get a high end custom 1911.

If, "a little" is your answer, get a low end(but still great) 1911 :neener:

Ruger P345

I love my Ruger P345. Super-reliable and much nicer looking/more ergonomic that older Ruger designs. I have an Springfield XD-9 that I like as well. I've never fired the XD-45, but I'm sure its an excellent gun.

Here's another vote for the P345. I do not have one yet, but I was also recently looking for a good .45 And after much searching and talking to people, I have decided on the Ruger P345. It's smaller than a full size 1911, so it's great for CCW. It's DA?SA, which is great because I don't like the idea of carrying cocked and locked. And from what MANY people have told me, it's tough as nails and very reliable. And at a little over $500 some places, it's not too expensive.

I am fortunate to live close enough to Impact (impactguns.com) and I can try a great many pistols on their range, including a Nighthawk custom 1911. Shoot everything. In as many sizes and calibers as possible.

I carry a Kimber, and I think I will be buried with it, but I didn't start that way. I've carried Taurus, Beretta, Glock, S&W, and some others before I felt like a 1911 worked for me.

My only two cents really, I have a small degree of contempt for highly-expensive custom 1911s. My Kimber goes for about $700. The Nighthawk sells for $2700. My Kimber shoots 2" groups at 25 yards. The Nighthawk shoots 1" at 25. I'm not a good enough shot to spend an extra $2k for 1" better accuracy. Both of them shoot 230 grain hydra-shoks 875 fps. If you have the money, do whatever you want, but I can't ever see myself choking up that kind of cash. (Ask me again when I'm done with law school.)

Lots out there. Most are great guns, with a lot of fans. For a reasonable price new, or plentiful on the used market, I'd look at:

DAO?
Sig P220
HK USP45
Glock 30
XD45

DA/SA?
EAA Witness
CZ 97
Sig P220
HK USP45
Glock 30
XD45

Single action?
Springfield GI/Milspec
Taurus PT1911
Kimber Custom II (get an internal extractor!)

As you can see from the posts, there are endless choices, and most all of them are good guns. I'm not even going to mention mine, but if you can, try as many as you can before deciding what you like best. You might have do some trading but you'll eventually find your best gun. :)

Just a side note. Have a P97 Ruger and am very happy with it. P97s are not being manufactuered any more and the Ruger 345 has taken its place do to lawyers and updating the line. Check out the www.rugerforum.com and browse or search the threads there if interested. All the pistol types mentioned above by others are all very good choices. Which fits you the best? Take your time and check them all for your sake. Keep us posted as you narrow things down or make the final choice. Oh,did I mention giving us a range report also. We do over here assign much homework! Class dismissed.:scrutiny: :D :what:

For the money, the Ruger P90 is the best buy.
It makes for a good roofing hammer also!;) If it gets run over by a truck, it still shoots, all day. all night...:D

If you can spend $1525, I'd recommend the Les Baer Concept 1 or Concept 2 1911. This is Baer's "entry level" 1911, with the C1 having adjustable sights, the C2 fixed sights. Of course, you can go up the ladder from there, funds permitting. Baer makes an almost endless variety of 1911s so you can get about any configuration you want.

My current carry gun is a Glock 30 (compact 10+1 .45ACP). It is very light and conceals well. I love 1911s but the 30 is so much easier to carry.

There are so many great .45s to choose from, such as the SIG P220, H&K USP45, Glock 21, Glock 30, Springfield XD45 - and that's before we even get to the 1911s!

If you want good, basic 1911 at a reasonable price, take a look at the Springfield Armory loaded 1911s. You can't go wrong with a Springfield 1911, IMHO.

And don't be afraid to scope out the new SigArms GSR Revolution 1911s. I've been reading good things about them.

Welcome aboard. In My Humble Opinion (IMHO), you can't beat the original, the 1911. All things considered and weighed, nothing matches it or even comes close. I have 5, in all three sizes, from different manufacturers and hands down, my choice is the Smith and Wesson Scandium Commander. It is light, powerful, comfortable to hold and holster, easy to aim and shoot well, thin and extremely concealable. I have made mine even better by having it Bobtailed. See it at www.ontargetcgw.com , select "1911 Gallery" then "Smith & Wesson Bobtail." It is now an absolute joy and provides a, perhaps, sensual joy to fondle and shoot. There has to be a reason that it has been, and continues to be, a premier choice of professional and civilian shooters for 95 years.
