Opinions on best CC "combat" pistol

The guys that always respond with "Browning High Power" and "1911" crack me up. It's like they deliberately misunderstand the intent of any given OP so that they can recommend their old-fashioned handguns. Neither the BHP or 1911 are very well suited for CC, although I suppose they could be considered "combat handguns" if you're talking about combat 34 to 98 years ago.

Wow. How exactly is combat from 34 years ago different from combat today, fundamentally?

Ive witnessed the 1911 used in combat first hand by a Green Beret in Iraq in '05. He sure felt like it was a combat gun. So do the Marine Recon. Or the FBI HRT. Or the many many other swat teams across America. But none of those guys would know anything about modern combat...

Im not even a big 1911 fan. Sold the two Ive owned. But credit is due where its deserved.

OP... You want a HK P7, get it. If you dont you will end up getting it anyways after losing money selling what eer you bought instead, or always wish you bought it in the first place. A new Glock/Sig/Walther will probably be close to 600 bucks which is the going price on some of the P7 models.

I guess I'm "old school" but I've yet to find a combat handgun that will equal the 1911.

The 1911 is very reliable, easy to conceal, easy to learn to shoot well and has been successfully putting bad guys out of business for almost 100 years.

Combat

My 1911 is the best combat pistol that i own
I carry a PF9 summer and a Glock 36 winter

At 5'11 185lbs I carry a full size 1911 all day with out any problem printing,CC in FL where it gets pretty darn hot,You can't ask for a slimmer platform in a .45 that doesn't shoot as sweeet as the 1911.

A million dead Moros, Mexicans, Hatian bandits, Germans, Russian Bolsheviks, Chinese bandits, Central American bandits, Japanese, North Koreans, Chinese Red Army soldiers, Viet Cong, North Viet Namese Army soldiers, Iraqi soldiers, and miscellaneous other enemies of the United States can't be wrong.

We could almost be twins. I carry mine in a holster of my own design and while discussing CCW I've had people look me over and say, "But you aren't carrying now, are you?"

I would suggest one of the Kahrs, either K9 or P9 depending on the weight and what floats your boat. I have a PM9 and love it, but you wanted something a bit more substantial, if I read your post correctly.

Get the pistol you want, sounds like a P7 for you. Then dress around the gun. I carry a 5" 1911 daily and use several holsters for different occassions. If you don't have three or four holsters, at least, you either have the luxury of dressing the same way every day or you're not trying hard enough to dres around the pistol.

Best CC "combat" pistol ?

For me, that means something I can conceal (which is about anything I want to dress around), and something ready for combat, ie. something 40 cal+, and dead on reliable.

For the Glock guys - G20,21,22,23,29,30,37,38
For the 1911 guys - any commander or full size that is know to work flawlessly.
For the XD guys - XD40,XD45 4" or 5", XDm40
For the Sig guys - P220, P226,229,239 in .40
For the H&K guys - USP40,45, USPc 40,45
Etc......

See where I'm going with this?

There are many of us that own, and shoot well, 9mm pistols. I have a few and don't feel undergunned when carrying them. But..if I know that I am going into combat, I want a big-bore.

I've got throw in a vote for a Kahr P or CW. I just purchased a CW9 it is, imo a perfect size for carry, slim, light and well balanced
