Opinions on the Sig P229ST .40S&W?

I was at the range Sat. with my P228, and after I was done shooting, I saw the Sig P229ST .40S&W for sale up in the gunshop; it was a (barely) used consignment piece, and the price was $705.00. I compared it side-by-side with my P228, and was surprised that it didn't seem much heavier than my P228, and the trigger on it was almost identical to the excellent trigger on my P228.

The .40 is not my favorite caliber, although I like my CZ 75B in that caliber. I have always liked my P228, and won't part with it, but this gun just looks beautiful in all-stainless. I had my Uncle Mikes Old-World Pancake holster with me, and it hostered perfectly in it. I have nothing I want to trade off, and the gun fund is presently depleted, but this one just moved to the top of my wish list.

Any other opinions out there?

I have a sig P229 in 40 S&W without the ST suffix. I have owned it for over 5 years and must say that it was made to handle the 40 S&W. The slide is made from a solid piece of steel for added strength. The recoil is not bad at all and it is very accurate. If don't know if that is what you were asking, but I hope it helps. Recently Sig Mfg. in Exeter, NH. was offering re-conditioned sigs with the full factory warranty at a lower price. Maybe you should look into it.
Just another point, I especially like the 40 S&W round when it comes winter time. It's a much better round for penetration through winter clothing.

I have one with the 40 and 357sig barrels and it's one of my favorite pistols.
KKM and BarSto both make a 9mm conversion barrel for the 229 which is high on my wish list. With the 9mm conversion barrel you just use your 228 mags and you're all set. 3 calibers in one gun. :D

I've had a few 229s in my time, and they were all excellent weapons (I'm sure they're still excellent weapons for their current owners) but I had trouble with the thickness of the grip, especially when I added Hogue grips. I'm currently on an H & K kick, and I have a USPc in .40 and a P2000 in 9mm, both of which fit me better than the 229. Of course, if I received a call that I had just won a P229 in a contest, I certainly wouldn't turn it down, either. P229's were designed for the .40 cartridge, so they are able to handle the pressures of the cartridge as well. You would not go wrong with the ST model.

I have all three bbls for my Sig 229. 9, 357 and 40. You can shoot all three using the same mags that come with a 40 bbl. I've never had a FTF with any of the three bbls.

Funds may be depleted, but you cannot go wrong with a 229. Once you have it you can get a conversion bbl for short money.

Yep, you can use 9mm in your 40/357 mags. I've been doing it now for over 3 years and I haven't had one problem. I've even run a few IDPA matches with it that way. I can fit 13 rnds of 9mm in these mags.

HighVelocity, give it a try and I think you'll see that it works.

I just loaded 13 rounds of 9mm in a 10 round 40/357 mag and they fit like they are supposed to. Now I REALLY need to find a 9mm conversion barrel so I can try this.
Thanks RockRivr1, you just saved me from buying 228 mags.

Glad to help. I ended up getting a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion bbl for my 229. They are a little more expensive then others, but I've had no problems with it. Good luck with whatever you get.

And with Berettas, the 9mms are 15 rounds but the .40s are 11.

Mag spacial relations are a brackmagic.

When (if) the 229ST comes in 9mm, I will buy it.

I've had a .40 pistol before, and I don't care for the chambering.

For me, its got to be either .45 acp or 9mm!

I live in the incredibly lame state of California, where this pistol is not yet legal to own - it must first be tested then placed on the list of "Approved " handguns.

Otherwise I would have one now.

I spent about 3 months in the California in the early 80's, it was/is a beautiful state. Too bad that they're politicians have no respect for the 2nd amendment. :(

I have owned and shot a number of sigs, but the one I like the most is my 228. (My 2340 comes in a very close second.)
I had a 229 in .40 and 357SIG and it wasn't a bad gun, but it lacked the balance and instinctiveness of the 228 for some reason.
I bought and sold it, I lost $94 + the price of one factory ten rounder buying it, then selling it back 2 months later.
It was far from unfired.
The 228 and 229 feel the same in the hand, but when you pull the trigger that's where the similarities end.
I can't comment on the 229ST, it's one SIG I have never seen up close and personal.
I'm saying that I didn't like MY 229.
YMMV.
