I thought the Otis cleaning kit in a little pouch looked handy for use at the range or for a quick bore cleaning job. But in practice I find the way the patches are supposed to be slipped through the slot & folded over to be a nuisance and removing used patches from the holder difficult and time consuming.

Am I missing something or does anyone out there have similar experiences. I'd hate to have to read the directions!

I like the Otis cable system but I do not like their patch configuration so I use a normal oblong loop end threaded onto the cable and a large patch to pull through. Their patch works great but is too labor intensive and too expensive for regular use.

I use it with standard patches. Works fine. I still like the old tried and true rod for deep cleaning.

I have one and like it. I've used it with and without the Otis specific patches and honestly, the Otis patches' cost is more of a hassle than the actual proper use of them for me.

Save yourself some money. Get a length of line from a string trimmer, mushroom the end on a piece of heated steel(knife blade, soldiering iron, etc),and sharpen the other end to pierce the patches. Doesn't cost much and works just as well.

I use regular patches on the end of the Otis cable. It's very handy for rifles that don't have a a clear shot at the breech, like AKs and Mini 14s.

I keep mine in a daypack for emergency use in the field. There are better options at home.

I use it, and like it, once I ran out of the supplied patches I use old cut up shirts and stuff for patches. The patch and holder setup never seemed a nuisance to me. The way it kinda "puffs out" seems to do a darned fine job.

Me too.... It is a great cleaning kit. My old rod is just used to prop the safe door open now. I have never replenished the Otis patches. Any patch will work.
