P-09 or H&K USP help please

I've owned both Hks and Czs.....I've been more impressed with the CZs......I highly recommend the P09, just make sure any pistol is comfortable "in the hand" for you, and that you can operate all controls without breaking your grip.

Thank you all for your input. I ordered the USP. Had the p 09 been out for ten years longer, I'd of had more to go off from. As it is, the USP has a long track record that is exceptional and the cz doesn't yet.

Great choice!

Enjoy your new HK USP 9MM. I don't have an USP yet but just love my P30LS. I have always liked the 9MM HK USP Compact.

I like HK's but CZ has been making firearms well before HK was even a thought. Not a bad choice but, especially compared to the CZ's the USP feels like holding a 2x4 to me, and yes I own one.

I had a P-09 SR (threaded barrel) for a while, fantastic gun for the money. $504 shipped for a super accurate 19+1 pistol with a threaded barrel is a great deal.

Good call.

To me, the whole idea of a CZ over an HK is laughable.

Do you even know who Heckler & Koch were? Only the designer and senior engineer at Mauser when the factory was closed at the end of the war. They knew a little something about making guns.

CZ has been building handguns since at least WWII, and the P-09 is the same fundamental design concept as all the others, just with a plastic frame. I wouldn't have any reservations about its ability to shoot lots of rounds with minimal parts breakage.

CZ has been building guns for many years -- before WWII -- but the handguns we see now have a different heritage.... Lots of things changed when the Communists took over, factories closed and started building motercycles and heavy equipment, etc., and changed again when the Communist system went away. The P-07 and P-09 are GENERALLY similar to the newer generation of CZ-75s and CZ-75B models, but more different than many realize.

The P-07/09 is a subtly different design, using a different barrel lockup design (like a SIG, locking into the slide (in the chamber area) rather than barrel lugs locking into the slide in front of the chamber), and the fire control mechanism is quite different, simpler (and more adaptable) using the new Omega design. Not a lot from the older design seems carried forward with the new one. (The mags from older CZs can be used in the P-07, but not the P-09 -- and they can be pricey.) Except ergonomics -- which are quite good -- very CZ.

I've had a BUNCH of CZs over the years, liked all of them, still have one (CZ-85 Combat), several "clones," AND a P-07. I really like the P-07. I bought mine used and it didn't come with the parts to switch from safety to decocker; mine is safety-equipped (which I prefer). The newer P-07 and P-09 can be user-switched from safety to decocker or back, and have grip inserts to adjust fit in the hand.

I've shot a number of H&K guns, but have never owned one -- so I'm not a good judge when making comparisons of CZ vs H&K. I can say that the P-07/P-09 offer great value for their prices and as I get older, that is an increasingly important variable in all of my gun choices. (I've had some very pricey guns over the years, and they were all sweet, but... I don't have any of them, now -- and it's unlikely I will in the future.)

I know you picked up the HK, that's a great choice that's for sure.

My p-09 has been dead solid perfect in over 3000 rounds now. It's a dream to shoot and 19+1 is pretty nice also.

It makes me want to pick up a P-07...

I didn't know they were associated with Mauser at one time. Thanks for the info. BTW, I have an HK P7 PSP, P7M8, and USP Tactical .45, so I do like their firearms. The USP is a solid choice.

And that quote is just as laughable in my opinion. I own both and the CZ's shoot more easily accurate for me and anyone who I let shoot them. Hk makes really good guns but Cz isn't exactly chopped liver of the gun world. Not to mention the Cz custom guns that are far superior to Hk for only a little more money.

HK

The USP will last forever. I have shot thousands of rounds through my USP's (both 9 and 45's) and never had a single malfunction in any of them.
