First off, CALL HS Precision and see what they recommend...
Secondly, make sure the paint you want to use is compatible with the URETHANE top coat and current black 'Spackle' paint on the stock now.

As for the debate on the HS stock it's self...
I don't care for them one bit!
Not really what I'd call a 'Quality' piece of work.
I was against using them for the Army M-24,
And I think the current 'Adjustable' version is for the birds!
Just remember, if you EVER decide to 'Update' your stock,
DO NOT DRILL/CUT INTO IT!
You will be DISAPPOINTED at what you find! And they are HARD to fix once you cut into them!
Just sell it to some 'Tacti-Cool' guy for way too much money, and start shelling out for a McMillan!
When I'm building for 'Tactical' support role,
I'll go McMillan every time!
MUCH better stock, and not that much more expensive...
