To wrap up my part in this thread I'm going to try to re-state my view on this issue...
There are probably a lot of anti-gun people who can afford to be against guns for defense because hey... they don't live in a slum, their suburban community doesn't have a crime problem. It's no skin off their nose if carry isn't permitted.
When those same people see their neighbors being eaten alive by wild animals, then find out the government won't allow them to defend themselves, they may see the light and join us. This would be a good thing. Lets all encourage this train of thought.

In the meantime, if I see a Californian being eaten by a mountain lion, can I just eat my popcorn and enjoy the show?
