I went to a local pawn shop yesterday, looking for old military rifles. Nothing of interest, but an old cut down Mauser in the corner. Maybe worth a second look? Why not, I picked up this poor ole girl, whose barrel had lost 3", and stock bastardized in front of the rear band. Could it be worth the $70 price tag? What looked me in the eyes when I turned her around was a beautiful 1915 Danzig Gewehr 98 receiver, with matching bolt, trigger guard, floorplate, and sight! The huge downside is the cut down stock and barrel were also matching. So I pulled this nasty old beast to the counter and showed him the broken firing pin, the hacked stock, and the dark bore. "$40 out the door?" I asked, and was blown away when he said "Sure, let me have your drivers liscense and I'll get the paperwork".
Restoration here we come! I'll post pics up later, I'm on a barrel and stock hunt
