Peculiarities in Gun Taste?

I have an odd affinity for the BAR in 30/06.
Don't know why. I just do. It's my next rifle and I'm going to try and make it into a decent mid range precision rifle too. Another defect in my personality.

I cringe when I see a pistol that has had it's iron sights removed and some sort of micro holo-dit sight or scope put in its place. Just aint natural.

Likewise, I cannot help but snicker when I see a mall ninja at the range with more junk strapped onto his EBR that's worth more than my car.

I love and appreciate blued revolvers, but find myself packing a Glock instead.

Lastly, my rifles are getting longer, while my pistols are getting smaller.

If one simple phrase describes my taste, it's due tone. I am very particular about very clean cut, matt finishes, especially on stainless steel. A slight shine or very fine brushing is also desirable only if very stable. I also like smoothness for both looks and feel. High polish is good but only in a mixed finish, usually with black matt or stainless. I also have a "next generation" or futuristic taste, though this mostly revolves around the desire of something that simply does everything you want to, which is my image of Next Generation firearms.
It is pretty much impossible for me to keep one gun with nothing but black on it though I almost demand at least some black on my guns, sights if nothing else. Grey and black, olive drab and black and desert tan and black are my usual mixes of choice, apart from stainless variations.
In terms of gun appearance, short and thick are my general preferences for both handguns and rifles in addition to all of the above. finely, I like having allot of stuff on my guns, even if I don't have any particular use for it. The exception is stuff mounted on the tac rail of rifles or handguns, which is funny, since it's the most necessary and what I will be quickest to use apart from optics.

The easy answer--I like guns!!!

The more complicated answer
-military is better than commercial
-older is better than newer
-unusual is better than cookie-cutter
-all original is better than mixed-and-matched
-custom is better than normal (new) factory crap
-parked is better than blued in U.S. military arms
-high polish blue is better on custom "show" guns
-blue is better than anything on old Win.'s and Colt's
-0% blue remaining is better than reblued
-pitted and rusted (as long as it's light) is better than reblued
-stainless is just butt a$$ ugly on anything and everything
-walnut and blueing is better than black plastic and black aluminum
-classics are better than EBRs

Well, that pretty much states where my allegiance is at...

You know those odd looking guns with one skinny barrel under a big fat one? You know, the ones that make you cringe … The shotgun-rifle combos …

Sigh

I love those things lol.

The ratio of people that prefer blued to stainless is like 10 to 1; that kind of shocked me. I prefer stainless, but blued is perty too. I haven't owned, or shot, enough firearms to make a comprehensive list. I do like my semi-auto pistolas....also, a long time ago the .22 hornet made an impression on me.

I'm a wood stocked EBR junkie. That includes SKSs, SVDs, M1as, SVTs, G43s,AKs, FALs, MAS 49/56s, Hakims, Rasheeds, Ljungmans, and you get the idea.

I really like the look of blued steel that has the bluing worn thin enough to almost see through it. I hate bull barrels and adjustable iron sights on handguns

I prefer revolvers to autos, which is apparently kind of unusual among young guys. I think stainless is the best finish for handguns in general, but there are some I'd rather have in black. As for revolver capacity, I prefer six shot models to seven or five, but like eight better than five or seven.

I don't like stainless on rifles or shotguns and I don't like pump-action rifles, but I prefer pump-action shotguns to semi-auto ones.

I almost always prefer wood and steel to modern plastic crap, though I dont' mind synthetic grips on revolvers.

And I have no reasons behind any of these. They're all just what I like.

What's a young guy when it comes to firearms? To my way of thinking that is someone who isn't old enough to own one. That's the thing about the sport of shooting, you don't have to be the quickest down the court/field, able to jump the highest, or swing the club head faster than the next guy. Shooters stay young longer than traditional athletes. ;)

I am not sure if I count as young anymore (28) but I really love a good revolver...
I've loved revolvers since I actually was young. I guess because back in those days it was the cool thing to do. :D

The proper place for a pistol safety is the frame.
The proper operation of a safety lever is up for locked, down for fire.
I hate .40 recoil. I like .45 recoil. I don' mind 9mm recoil.
Cheap broken guns need to be loved. I must give them a home and try to make them better.
To live in the US and not to own either a revolver or a levergun (preferably both) seems downright unamerican.

I tend to like everything in stainless.

With blued guns, scratches have no where to hide. However, case hardened and patina finishes on antique guns are absolutely amazing in my eyes.

I love Semi Auto. I'm going to be branching out, and getting a revolver next time, not sure what, but I've decided to get past my preference, and try something new. Also, Round Capacity is a HUGE part of my selection(probably why I prefer semi auto) You can't have too many rounds.

I see everyone here likes what I like :)

Personally, I like technology. But I hate having 27 different safeties on my pistols. Thank you california and ruger.
Semi autos are where I like it.
I prefer a nice nickel finish on a blued receiver with a nice birds eye or curly maple.
Don't care much for synthetic stocks on rifles but I love polymer pistols.
I don't care much for revolvers, they don't fit my hand and not my style, except the Ruger single six hunter.
I have been getting into the lever actions lately. Nice blue finish with a walnut stock. Very nice.
I love simple guns and I also love it when people go and trick out their firearms with every possible shiny object they can find. Think gold AK 47
I don't understand why anyone would possibly buy a six shot revolver with a transfer bar safety and still only load five rounds, or have an older revolver that can be converted cheaply, or free, without any damage to the gun and not do it. 6 is better than five. But I also never grew up with that style of revolver so it holds no sentimentality for me.

But my favorite rifle is my Ruger 77/17HM2 that has slightly beat up straight grained walnut, worn out bluing and fits me like a glove.

I like break-open single shot guns of all kinds - especially old ones. I guess I'm something of a minimalist, since I love the simplicity of these guns.

I prefer Stainless and like Engraving. I like Blued guns but don't prefer them. I'm glad I have a choice, same as everyone else.
