Hi Pancho...

Here is a site you might find interesting. http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/2,334.html

Not Perdie's but take a gander anyway. (And don't rule out the 1875 Remington until you've had a chance to shoot mine!). :D

They make them. Nice guns, far better than the usual junk foisted off on the public. If you want better, you're getting into the Hege and FWB range.

Shawnee, that is a nice looking piece. As you know I am now the proud owner of two pretty little 1862 Colt Police so I'm not really in the market to spend my own money right now but I just turned in my termination date at work and they want to get me something. I don't need a watch and they don't want to afford a SS old army like yours (that I want). So I thought maybe something in between. The only problem is I can't ,find online, a price for a Pedersoli 1858 Remington.

Pancho I just remembered, after cutting a 22 line per inch full coverage checkering on my latest Navy model the point on impact came down a couple of inches.
So Checkering serves more than one purpose, and if you plan on a Checkering job have it done before you install a taller sight.

The Colt Plow Handle rocks in the hand under recoil, checkering reduces that muzzle flip.

Also just getting used to the handling qualities of the new gun and its small grip may bring the point of impact down a bit.

Hello,

In Europe, a Rem 1858 by Pedersoli would cost twice the price of a Uberti so I imagine the ratio should be the same in the US

But a Pedersoli is not twice better than a Uberti or a Pietta........

Regards

Filibuste, you are right :)

I think that Pedersoli revolver isn't made by Pedersoli!
How all big companies take part or product from secondary source, for example some years ago a partner of Pedersoli was Ardesa :D
It may be made by Euroarms with German barrel or directly in German:)
I like most of the Pedersoli product, but not the revolver, too expensive,(rifle are expensive too but are sure the best) Uberty have a better ratio of value for money than DP
Euroarms revolver expecially roger & spencer and remington are well made but not easy to find on the market!
Avoid Palmetto or chaparral arms :banghead:

ciao

> I think that Pedersoli revolver isn't made by Pedersoli!<

Well, I just went through this a short while back, during a time where I was deciding on which better-quality '58 to buy. So here is the scoop:

Pedersoli buys the guns, mostly assembled, from one of the better manufacturers in Europe. Nobody was willing to say from whom, though. Pedersoli then disassembles the revolvers, reworks and re-hardens all the parts, and then puts a Lothar-Walther barrel on the pistol. They are genuinely good firearms when finished.

These sorts of arrangements are common for the Italian firearms makers. Uberti makes some parts for Pedersoli and Pedersoli makes some for Uberti.

I did buy the Pietta '58 sold by Dixie Gun Works as a 'Shooter's Revolver" and, IIRC, the URL is http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_92_187_189&products_id=4098 and it is a very nice gun. It has a gain-twist barrel, the fit and the finish are excellent and it is nice and smooth. Most of all, it really shoots well--far better than I can. Give it a look-see because DGW is a good outfit with which to do business.

Ive been considering getting one of these.

The Spiller and Burr Brass frame Confederate Revolver.

The brass frame of this gun shouldn't be a problem since the S&B has rather shallow chambers and won't take a heavy load.
Its also a pretty strong top strap solid frame design, copied from the Whitney revovers and closely related to the Remington.

The service models of the S&B look a bit crude but I've seen the fully finished prototype, that gun is nice and it shouldn't be too hard to duplicate its lines.

The S&B would make a nice outdoor tackel box gun. Its about equal to a .32 long in power.

Price is right too.

I own the Spiller & Burr and it is a nice revolver from Fratelli Pietta. Never had a problem stretching. I have a book on Confederate Revolvers and the chapter on S&B said there was a problem with originals, which is why the frames were strengthened by filling in the area immediatly in front of the cylinder.
I also have a Eli Whitney Navy which was the inspiration. The only downside is it's made by Palmetto, who has a less than stellar reputation. Fortunatly mine shoots and works fine; the only problem is the woodwork on the grips isn't as good as one might hope. Also, when I disassembled it for cleaning I found there's an odd feature; remove the nipples and there are small washer-like parts there. I don't know what function they serve ... but I cleaned them and replaced 'em since there must be some reason they're there even if it perplexes me.
